Is it possible to have what is being displayed on your PC unto another PC or Laptop without installing some form of video card or recorder?

Can it be done strictly through software?

just displaying or recording? you can have 2 outputs either with a splitter, or mirrored outputs

well I'd use the 2nd PC or Laptop to record sometimes. But I figure once I can get it to display on either than I'll be able to run a recording program to get the job done. I'm pretty noob so please elaborate more on splitter and mirrored outputs. If you could provide a link as to what they are that would be helpful.

Ok did my own research and found out what the mirrored outputs and splitter is. My question now is how can i record what's going on one the 1st PC using the 2nd PC?

I recall a discussion here about such software in the News section.

I believe this is what you want: Input Director.

The hardware version is called a KVM switch.
