I enjoy the extra XP, and I enjoy the times when the server is really crowded and I get priority.

TO EVERYONE WITH LOW FPS

I haven't touched any ini files, but in game I have everything on/maxed (except render distance which I left default), I had choppy frames, UNTIL I disabled 1 setting, and 1 setting only, that fog shadowing one, now I play with vsync on and it's almost always locked at a beautiful 60 fps.

Try disabling that fog shadow setting, everyones setups are diff, but give it a shot smile.gif

2) Llano is the same arch as Ph II
3) Trinity is the same arch as PD

Where you are getting this mystical "different acrh" argument I don't know, but it's wrong. Xeons are Core. Opterons are FX. They have a bit more cache, more cores, more memory channels, and more QPI/HT links, and more features (they get some fun toys to assist in things like virtualization and monitoring) but the core design is the same.

The other part is that, go figure, if a CPU is fast enough, it can just straight up brute force it. A 5Ghz 2500k will rip a 4Ghz 3570k a new one all day long in SC2, that's just how it works.

Now the fun part, is you're arguing that a same-arch Xeon will out-preform a much faster clocked consumer CPU in a game that can not use more then 4 cores to their full potential. No, it does not work that way, and it never will.

When you are comparing 2 things of the same design, you can always predict this sort of thing. While you would be right if they were actually different archs, they are not.

Actually never said anything about different architectures. This happens all the time in the same architecture. Most recent example is the 3820. Some games it outperforms the 3770k clock for clock and some games it doesn't. Why? Nobody knows. Besides that though, the only difference I claimed is in the way that the cache is used. This is a known difference. Also a known difference is that the E5's have an integrated I/O controller. Can you definitively say that that wouldn't impact anything? No.

But again I reiterate, these are typically things that you can't determine just by simple processes of logic, because games don't follow logical processes. Anything else can be determined exactly as you are saying, by comparing architecture to architecture, spec for spec you can determine video performance, workstation performance, folding performance, whatever. But games are just loopy.

Thanks man, Ill try that. i dont have any FPS issues, so this may make it even better smile.gif

I hadn't even thought to mention this, but I also had a huge performance increase after disabling this feature, on average 15-20 frames with my rig listed below.

... I literally can not win this argument since it relies on you being ignorant about how CPUs work and the ability to predict how things happen, so I'll just leave it at this.

Do you think Intel just throws different designs at the wall until they get one that's better at things then the old generation? No. They specifically build it so that it's better at certain tasks (instruction sets are a good example). Do you think game designers just go "Screw it, we'll do it in this completely off the wall way"? No. They try to tweak it to get the job done as best they can given the limitations, be it time, or perhaps limitations of the hardware at the time (IE, consoles). Good programmers know how to optimize for the hardware it will run on, and what to avoid doing when it will run on a lot of hardware. (IE, don't design something that will run on Intel with only AMD in mind).

It is a design, made by humans. It is not magic. It is predictable, and the only ones who think it isn't are the ones who don't know enough about the hardware and software in question to make that prediction. /argument

Also, as a side bit:

The difference is very minimal.

Am I missing something in this post? No screenshots, no links, no videos, and nothing in a direct comparison using Planetside 2.

I'm not saying that different architectures don't perform better than others even with less L3,

So, yes, you did say different archs. Those are the same arch, with and without L3.
