My bad, it was ANDMYGUNs description of "We get a giant target that's as slow as a turtle..." that made me think of a Scythe, rather than a Reaver lol.

If it's like PS1, they're all really good in different situations.

The NC launcher was camera guided. You can sit in total cover and shoot it around corners. The damage per hit is significantly higher than the VS or TR launcher, but the fire rate is slow since you have to manually guide the missile the entire way to the target. Approaching an NC held defensive position in a ground vehicle without an overwhelming numeric advantage is suicide.

The TR launcher was like a 6-round Annihilator that can optionally dumbfire missiles. Each missile is relatively low damage, and the lock range is short. Fly low over a TR base, and you'll have a macross missile massacre on your butt before you can pucker up.

The VS got an anti-material sniper rifle that was probably the most effective overall against armor, and the least effective against aircraft.

haha, don't worry about it.. But yes the Reaver is the worst ESF, Our outfit has some of the best pilots on Connery NC and right now they aren't too happy.

Reaver has a bigger hit box, slower speed, and it maneuvers worst then the others.

So I'd complained about the game being unplayable before, logged on last night to play again and was getting single digit FPS with 1-12% GPU usage on both cards.

Went out and grabbed the latest 313.96 beta drivers from Nvidia and then loaded up the "ultra" ini file. Disabled ambient occlusion and fog, added physx in, and jumped back into a much much smoother experience even while battling it out at Crown at night. Physx effects are gorgeous and my two 560ti's are handling the game great at these settings. Every now and then I'd get a little frame spike but it would be once every 5 minutes. No more ghosting of players, no more world disappearing glitch, so I'm really happy so far.

I don't think anyone's answered this yet, but I think it comes down to personal preference. I only have experience with the NC's default and rotary, but I think the other two empires' are fairly similar. The default is more of a general purpose, and has a much slower firing rate than the rotary.

That being said, the slower firing rate can be useful when you're learning how to fly, and how to keep a target in your sights. Once you're able to somewhat reliably keep someone in your crosshair, I'd say go with the rotary.

Can't argue with this. It's even easy to drop them with a tank. The only reason I even get worried about them when rolling in armor is if they get directly above me.

The default nosegun for ESF is OK against both aircraft and ground targets.

The rotary is better against aircraft, but terrible against ground targets because it deals very little damage to them.

I use both. Default gun with rocketpods, rotary with A2A missiles, and rotary with rocketpods if I expect to hunt big game like Gals or Libs.

Does anyone have any tips for flying in this game? I find trying to manuver a jet with a mouse a d keyboard to be a nightmare. It actually makes me long for a controller... Also I was thinking of buying a dedicated phyx card, any reccomendations on a cheap one?

640s make great PhysX cards, but look into the hybrid amd-main card physX stuff, as I've heard NVidia attempted to stop it.

Most people use m/kb for flying, as joystick support is limited and m/kb just gives a lot more control than a controller.

Flying

- Re-bind "E" even if you don't think you'll ever hit it, you will one day.

- Fly with a high sensitivity, my DPI is 400 and my polling rate is 125 HZ, when I fly I have my sensitivity is at 90.

- Always try to fly in 3rd person, when lining up a shot go back to 1st person.

- When lining up a shot don't use "A" & "D" row with your mouse.

- Flares should be the first thing you buy, when you get locked on flare up and go back to safety and wait till it's back.

- Don't get higher then rank 5 timer.

- Night vision for everything you plan on using.

Physx Card

I think a 9800 is goo enough but right now newegg is having a deal on 650's $110 and you get $50 SC to spend in Planetside.
