Out of interest, is your SoE Station account name what actually appears as soldier name?
That would disappoint me to be honest. I hope it can be different/edited.

Well, atm you can create a character and name it whatever. As far as I know, your sign in name won't be your soldier name in game.

Yes sir! I have loved the battlefield series since 1942 but honestly this game is everything battlefield wishes it could be. Like I said you get more than compensated for your $ spent on alpha squad, plus you get to start playing the game asap! The beta will probably be around until close to launch and launch prob won't be until December or so.

All in all, there really is nothing to compare to the massive amount of infantry and vehicle warfare that can go down in one spot in this game. A fleet of 50 tanks and 50 aircraft within half of a square mile or so is not unheard of.

If you do pick it up and want to play with some team work like that, let me know. Our outfit is always down for new recruits that understand the importance of team work and simply put, aren't stupid as hell tongue.gif

I guess they don't want my money! tongue.gif
EDIT: Done, finally! I had to create a new SoE account because the one I was using was registered to the UK, not Gibraltar (where I live now). However, PayPal and MasterCard credit card payments still failed. Luckily my Visa debit card went through ok. Funnily enough, Gibraltar is set to pay in USD when here we use GBP. I therefore paid $39.99, which to me is currently £24.88. People in the UK have to pay £29.99. WIN! tongue.gif

Congratulations!! I would say I will see you on the battlefield but I guess you will be in a European server.

Yea what reloaded said. It's just like a mmo in that aspect. You have a log in username but that's not linked to your character or "toon" names.

I gotta say if you are playing the beta at prime time (6est through 12am EST) there is some serious fun action going on every single night!

I am a personal HUGE battlefield 2/3 and 2142 fan but those games simply have no teamwork compared to planetside 2.

In BF3 a good player can easily get a few kills and possibly plant a MCOM/take/defend a flag. In planetside 2 there is no way you are taking a defended base alone ever. You could possibly take a control point or two, but some of the main battle basses require you to take 3-4 control points and then hold them all while you gain influence for 1-3 minutes before its capped.

The voice communication is garbage in BF3, I believe if you want to use VC then you must set it up in battlelog.

In Planetside 2 you log in and if you have a mic plugged in and its detected in windows audio it will auto detect the mic and allow you to speak. There are separate voice channels for everything going on. Voice chat for squad, platoon (multiple squads fighting as one), outfit (what most mmo's call a guild or clan), and then proximity chat. Every single time I am in a somewhat full platoon there is a great sense of teamwork, usually 2-3 people calling out objectives and the rest of the people follow, I've had a few good times on some galaxies which are huge air ships mainly used for transport. A good squad can take a few bases in 20 minutes by using these air ships effectively.

I also enjoy how sometimes defending a point is really hard, for instance there is a base in the middle of the map called "The Crown". I'm not sure of its strategic importance really, but its in the middle of all 3 factions and typically has major action. Whoever holds it can be attacked from either faction quite easily typically. Last night I think we defended it from a constant onslaught for about 2 hours. This requires constant repairs of the numerous turrents, repairing max (kinda like mech suits) suits with anti air going and having lots of medics holding on the bases.

I am hopefully going to upload videos to youtube periodically starting next week once my second video card gets back from RMA. I think my preferred faction is the NC right now but may try Vanu with the incoming character wipe.

Yea VOIP in PS2 is so freaking tits. Like 6 different channels that all work pretty much flawlessly. I was disappointed in VOIP (or the lack of it) in bf3 before but now it seriously just pisses me off knowing that a f2p game is blowing it out of the water.

Battlefield 3 still looks damn gorgeous (although ps2 def doesn't look bad) and don't get me wrong, I still love the game. All in all though, I think PS2 has really just raised the bar so high in so many different aspects that I really don't want to dedicate any more serious time into bf3.

Also in relation to your fps drops you were talking about in the top of page 2. Have you tried disabling HT on your cpu? That really helped out my 3930k in this game. Fps is higher and the game overall is just more fluid.

Huge PS1 fan (pre-BFR of course) and have been in beta since closed started. Awesome game, but they are catering to everyone too much and it's making the game very stale for me. Hopefully they can make some key changes and it will be the best game out there!

Battlefield 3 still looks better and don't get me wrong I still love it. All in all though, I think PS2 has really just raised the bar so high in so many different aspects that I really dont want to dedicate any more serious time into bf3.

BF3 does look pretty damn good, but the draw distance and some of the terrain looks simply amazing in planetside 2 as well man.

In all seriousness, if you just took a look at how well the voice chat was implemented into Planetside 2 you would feel really cheated on BF3. I mean its $60 bucks, I bought one DLC and its been milked with another DLC. Great game don't get me wrong but.. BC2 had squad chat, bf2 had squad chat, bf2142 had squad chat. No squad chat in BF3 unless you set it up with you're "party" members in battlelog.

What happens if you squad up with someone after you joined the game? Tab out to join a "party"???!!? In Planetside 2 you go to the squad menu, find a squad thats relativity full and you say "hey guys whats the objective currently?" You'll quickly see almost everyone has a mic and that 90% of the 12 person squad is at the objective. Not like BF3 where the squad leader says attack point F and 2 out of 5 people are there.

It took me about 4-5months to get a invite, you're better off buying alpha squad or watching twitter/gaming sites for freebies. Alpha squad will be worth it if you typically spend $60 on new releases anyway its only $40 bucks and the station cash will allow you to instantly upgrade vehicle weapons which is a big deal. If theirs a fighter aircraft in the air with missiles it pretty much means they win the dogfights and they can typically kill a enemy transport like a liberator or galaxy much easier.

Anyone else love the jumping pads at some of the amp stations?

I love going from turret to turret when they are being attacked repairing them with those little rocket jump pads.

like i said hoping to get my second video card so i can record more gameplay

Edited my comment above a bit. Check it. Like I said ps2 looks good for sure, the draw distance is amazing. Still as I am playing some of the new AK maps like the snow one, well it's just so damn beautiful. Maybe I really notice this because I get to compare it constantly to my room mate playing bf3 on the 360 in the living room all the time tongue.gif

Also Esimir should be available tomorrow. Looking forward to some snow. Speaking of battlefield, this is probably gonna be the closest thing we get to 2143 for the time being. Hell, probably even more epic thumb.gif

Hey, I might try disabling HT thanks for the idea.

Right now my cpu is at 4.1ghz and my ram is at 1600mhz, it never really seems that my gpu/cpu is even stressed. I leave my two h100 fans at 50% on my fan controller and it doesn't heat up past 60ish C ever. (this is with 1.34vcore). GPU temps never exceed 60c with a overclock of 940Mhz from 880mhz.. I can only play with one GTX 560 Ti so I can't record gameplay like I really enjoy doing at high settings but hopefully when the second one gets back from RMA next week it'll change and I will try disabling HT tomorrow. I get 40-60 FPS pretty constant with a 90% render quality and a mix of high and medium settings right now. The only difference in graphics I really notice is once you push the render quality down past 75% it looks a lot worse IMO. Anything above 80% looks great still.

Yes, sadly I feel like I won't ever see BF2142 sequel which to this date is my favorite BF series game. I think EA/Dice pretty much already said BF4 would continue the modern war era type game. Titan game mode was so epic back in the day if you're rig didn't lag the hell out.

Is Esmir the second map? I am excited for that.. desert got pretty stale after. What server do you plan to play on we should try to get a OCN thing going on one of the servers, you can have characters on multiple servers so if we all made one and tried to organize one night to play it could be fun.
