As if we didn't have enough FPS drops. Until big fights stay above 60fps on a 680 I don't know why anyone would dare to turn Physx on.

Wait 200m range on the tv guided missile? Guess that will keep me from spending any money on that as the whole reason I was looking for it was to launch rockets from over one hill to another. Guess I'll try it out in VR first, but that seems like a complete joke.

Which is probably why it was kept at 200m. I can just see 50 HA's popping out of a freshly deployed sunderer and bombarding an entire base, with ammo reloads right next to them, and locking an entire enemy platoon down in the spawn room without even being within line of sight.

Don't feel too bad, the TR launcher has no dumb-fire. It can't be used against infantry at all. You cannot fire a shot unless it's locked onto a vehicle.

Word is that Phoenix projectiles pass through infantry.

By design?

Just tried it out.

They do seem to pass through infantry in VR.
The range is reasonable.

Turning up mouse DPI slows the turn rate, and I got the tightest Phoenix turns with my mouse set to 500 DPI (on an 18" mousepad).

You can hit the eject key to bail from guiding the missile. When you do, the missile begins to arc downward - before bailing, aim it high like you would with the default launcher.

There's no hipfire, and the camera mode does not engage unless there is a vehicle near your crosshair in ADS. Unlike the PS1 Phoenix, to use the PS2 Pheonix you need LOS to launch the projectile.
*edit* someone on PSU claims they've made it fire in camera mode w/o a target, so maybe the camera is just buggy and not always engaging when it should


At long range, the camera mode does not engage, but the projectile flies mostly straight with no arc.

Because the game is bottle-necked by the CPU, not the GPU, and this makes the GPU do more work?

I figured that was common knowledge by this point.

That's disappointing to hear... The only benefit I see to using it over the Hawk or the Crow is when tanks pop in and out of cover, you are within range and have some cover. The problem is that I use my rocket launcher against Maxs too often to give that up.

I wonder if the missile is agile enough to hit moving ESFs.

I already killed 2 infantry by using the Phoenix, both shots were head on(not splash damage).

The "dumbfire" mode of the Phoenix is a bug. It's mentioned here in this thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/phoenix-literally-the-worst-implemented-weapon-ever.107622/
Says they are working to fix it. It is supposed to go into the camera mode every time you fire it.

Also, I think the infantry thing might be a VR problem. There are lots of people saying they can't hit infantry with the Phoenix in VR, but it works ok in actual gameplay. From reports, it's a one-hit-kill. I have yet to try any out for myself yet though. Just relaying what I've read other people and the devs post.

Apparently it's a latency issue.
