On an unrelated note, did they optmize the hell out of the game?
Upgraded my card (6950 to 7950) and it runs great on pretty much everything maxed.

This. In my server, Indar always has the intense action, and is rarely (if ever) dominated by one faction. The other 2 are much more back and forth, its pretty common to see one of the sides running through them like a hot knife through butter. It's a shame really, because I enjoy combat in all 3, yet somehow I always end up in a power struggle in Indar. It gets tiring after a while. I shouldn't have nearly an entire continent memorized, while I'm always discovering new things in the other two.

People stick with what they're familiar with. The majority of the Beta was done on Indar, so that's where some of the tougher outfit leaders like to play. Outfits like to play against other outfits, so the smaller ones follow. Where the outfits play, the zerg follows.

Once the experience distribution changes though outfits are going to start jumping on lower populated continents to get their grunts certed up. Everything should even out nicely.

They need to merge servers. In the first week on my server (Helios), all three continents were jam packed with action. I spent most of my time that week on Amerish. If the servers had high to full populations, we'd actually be seeing battles outside of Indar, because Indar would be population capped at 2000 players, forcing others to play on the other continents.

Steam peaks at around 11,000 players at once (let's say there's 15-20,000 if you include all those not on Steam), so we clearly have way too many servers. Two east, two west, two euro, and one aussie are all that's required.

Is this game actually worth the time? I mean am I going to be severely gimped for not wanting to pay for anything if I decided to play?

I am really enjoying this game and the default weapons are pretty decent.

Everything that is available for Station cash is also availble via certs, so you can get the same gear but it takes a little longer.

Honestly, the only things Ive purchased with station cash is to pimp out my tank and sundie (camo, bullbars)... Some of the weapons Ive unlocked have not been worth the spend, other have. But Like I said, you can get those with certs as well.

Skill it the ultimate currency in this game.

pretty much the only thing you can't buy with certs is visual items, and camo is the only one useful in combat, but not too much as it gives a real good advantage. most of the weapons are sidegrades, all the extras (ammo type, rail attachments, scope types) cannot be bought with money anyways. I felt fine before I bought anything, I spent $15 on triple sc day, and bought 1 camo for my infantry, 1 camo for my vehicles and a few guns. I could do without them, but I like to switch roles up constantly, so I bought a decent weapon for a few classes and a few vehicles. If you are more specialized, like mainly playing armor, or mainly playing an infantry class, there is no real need to use SC, except to get the main weapon you will use more quickly. or i guess if you REALLY like camo, masks, and light and decals on your vehicles lol

You won't be severely gimped, but this is an MMO and there is progression on your character. However, it is also a FPS, so if you are decent at games like BF3 there is no reason you couldn't overcome the short comings in your character smile.gif

In my opinion, there is only one item in the game that is required to buy (but only if you like to fly airplanes). Rocket pods on your factions fighter craft, without them you would be pretty gimped engaging either ground targets or air targets (there are 2 types of rockets for fighters, air to ground and air to air, only 1 of the two are usable at a time). You can unlock these pods with certs and not pay a cent but afaik they are 1000 certs each, on a F2P account without premium that would take a while. The average player I would say without a premium account or exp boosts probably gets 25-35/hour, so you get the picture smile.gif

discovered this game through reddit, how well can my computer handle this game? i've higher end system are having fps issues
post #980 of 3016
well, the game is F2P so you could download it to find out

If I had to take a guess, fairly well but in heavy fights its going to drop down into the 20-30's. That 680 will certainly help, however it is extremely CPU dependent.
