[AppleInsider] Google's "iLost" Motorola ad faked an address to "lose" iOS 6 Maps - Page 5

You know what really gets my goat? All of those TV shows and movies that use them 555-**** telephone numbers!

/end sarcasm

They have no need to use a real address except to appease the OCD's out there, and for reasons already expressed in this thread, they probably shouldn't. It just avoids some potential issues. You guys whining about this need to go download the iLife app. rolleyes.gif

If Google can navigate me to imaginary places and Apple can't, then I'd consider that a significant improvement. It's good to know I wont meet any Apple users while visiting Atlantis, Narnia, or Shangri-La.

Faked or not, the point stands. Apple's map app sucks ass and Google's one doesn't. One can make the argument that bing maps is better than Apple's one.

All this article does is point out Motorola's fake ad, and how some of the problems of Apple Maps have been "exaggerated".
That's hardly the same. We're talking about minor photoshopping of a video playing on an iPad, to an ad portraying Motorola's smartphone as better because it can find something which doesn't exist, whereas Apple Maps actually finds the correct location.

Anyway, it's inaccurate to say the address is not real. Of course it's real, it's a real place a real location. When cities hand out addresses, they take into account the size and distance between two properties, and leave blanks on purpose in case the property ever gets divided up. So it's wrong to say the address is not real, more accurately the address is simply: "not in use".
The fact the Google maps takes this into account and even though the address is "wrong", it still sends you to the correct location of where it would be if it did exist. If anything, this just makes the Google maps look even better compared to iMap than if they had used a real address.
Edit: Plus, it's just meant to be an example. Does it matter if it's not a real example? Everyone knows apple has a problem with the maps. Motorola just didn't want to piss off the poor people living at 318 E 15th st (unlike the writer of the posted article).

Ignorance is bliss, and people seem to be ignoring your post. This is what I was hoping someone would bring out. The address is real, it simply doesn't have an actual building there. Cities assign the addresses even if no physical building exists. There's a street in my town that works the same way. Enter a house number on that street, and it might bring you to an address with no building on it because the address was assigned for that spot, but no one built anything there.
