Hi guys, I own a HD 7850 Gigabyte 2GB OC edition. I am at my wits end, no matter what i've tried my card. keeps. crashing. I guess I'd better explain the situation.

I get anywhere between 1-30 minutes of gameplay before I get a complete computer lockup, with grey vertical lines. I've tried drivers 12.3-12.9 beta. The only noticeable difference is the types of crashes. Sometimes the sound will still continue in the background but the computer will be completely unresponsive and require a hard reset. Other times the sound will loop and the computer will yet again be unresponsive to anything but a hard reset.

I've tried disabling the onboard audio and running a usb soundcard (that doesnt count as onboard right?) I have tried lowering clocks to 860mhz 1200 ghz. and increasing the voltage to 1.8 v just incase it was a power issue. No dice.

Here's the funny thing, I have never crashed whilst browsing/ doing homework whatever. I only get these crashes in game.

So basically, what do? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

My specs:

CPU: i7 2600 @ 3.4gHz
Motherboard: P8 H61-M LX
RAM: Kingston Hyper X Genesis 8GB
Graphics Card: Gigabyte HD 7850 2GB OC (single card, no CFX)
PSU: Cosair GS-700W
Hard Drives: 1TB Western Digital
(OS on a 120gb Kingston SS)
Also I'm running a dual monitor set-up, one through the DVI and one through the mini display port. If that helps at all.

Would be usefull if you can post a printscreen of your GPUZ, and also the Graphics Card temperature. smile.gif

What are your temps?

seems to me many people with many different GPU's have issues with BF3.

from what I've researched, Nvidia users can Alt+Tab their way to end the process. However those experiencing the black screen problem on 7870 cannot.

I'm wondering if AMD did something like this...

That is a nice feature of Nvidia cards. Graceful overclock crashing. thumb.gif

Hey guys, just recently got a Sapphire 7870 Ghz Edition, and I'm also having issues with the gpu usage and the core downclocking during 3d apps. 12.6 drivers work fine, proper gpu usage, no downclocking, 12.7 beta also works but causes nasty blackscreen crashes, 12.8 drivers do not work, but i managed to fix the downclocking at least buy applying a small oc to the core, now clock stays at 1002 mhz (that's right, 2 mhz oc wink.gif) but gpu usage still wonky, 12.9 beta also not working and the small oc tweak does not work anymore, seems like the bug introduced in 12.8 got carried over to 12.9, plus it got worse by not allowing the oc tweak to fix the downclocking issues. Are AMD even aware of these issues?

I know at least a dozen of us have filed support tickets with AMD for this issue and I don't think anyone has even got so much as a response. I'm hoping its because they know of the problem and are hastily trying to fix it, and not that they already got our money and just don't give a ****. mad.gif

Seems like AMD did the same as NVIDIA and with new drivers they capped OC, making card unstable beyond their specified MHz.
A user from Guru3d reports that AMD 7850 Oced more than 1050MHz, makes card crashing/freeze.
That could be the answer that many of you need to hear.

If don't think they are "hastily trying to fix it" because they should have released a hotfix after 12.8 came out, instead, a month later, they released a new beta driver with the same problems. And that's what worries me. They generally release hotfixes pretty quick when they find a major problem in of of their drivers.
