Hey there Bigwallclimber!!! Yeah i've never been good at the cable management and as far as the psu goes, i know it works great...just not the best option out there. I need to stop shirking on those kind of things and dish out for good psu!

On a side not I do need help with my memory. I purchased a certain type of ram designed for OCing and need to know how to up its performance. Anyone able to help walk me through how to OC memory? Never done it before...

Here's what CPUZ has to say about my memory so far...

I would try to tighten them timings up a bit.

Didn't have the money to go out and buy the top of the line AMD (1100T at the time...not that it isn't today). So I'm sure you may have done it before in the past where you slowly piece together an awesome beast over time. Finally finshed it. Then came the Air Force so I sold off the machine and got a nice higher-end laptop. Mistake. So I sold it and decided "in time" I'll get another machine. Well I work computers still now and everyone started to pressure me into building another for gaming and such. SO I started doing what I did before by buying deal components offline one by one, returning a few. The end result is as follows:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz ---$89
MSI 990FXA-GD80V2 ---$149
MSI R7870 HAWK Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 ---$239
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) ---$119
Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive (SSD) ---$65
Seagate 2TB Internal Hard Drive ---$19
COOLER MASTER Elite 430 ---$25
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus ---$19
Rocketfish RF-500WPS2 PSU (600watt peak) ---$25
LITE-ON DVD Burner ---$14
2 x APEVIA CF12S-BK 120mm Case Fan ---$9
XIGMATEK 3.5" Internal 75 in 1 Card Reader ---$7
Rosewill RNX-N250PCe Wireless Adapter ---$19
=$798 (after I get my rebates back:mad:)
I'll post pics today don't worry! thumb.gif I know how pics are everything! (can't stand people posting crap on Craigslist with no pics).
Tell me what yall think?

I'd like to know how you got a 2tb hdd for $20...ALSO the only way to get better at wire management is to simply do it lol.

As far as a 2tb hard drive...biggrin.gif...I worked for an Office Depot and if you go to most any store like that with poor management, they tend to NOT keep thier lockups tidy...so I came across a CLEARANCE external hard drive that had been pushed in the back and lost. It rung up for 18.95. ...heck yeah! If you want to find a deal like that I guaruntee you go to a store like that and ask management if there is any clearance in lockup NOT on display. They might be too lazy to look or might be hiding a good deal for themselves (they shouldn't) but its worth the try.

As for the memory, I've never messed with memory timing before let alone know even where to start so I'm a complete noob at it. All I've heard is the lower the numbers, the better? But i dont even know if my sources were correct. Where do I start?

I have taken a screenshot of my bios. There was an option made available to adjust THESE settings when changed to a "link" or "unlink" setting which I don't know what its talking about. When you mentioned adjusting my timing I take it is has to do with this screen. Does anyone have any suggestions to apply some tweaks? I don't wanna break anything if someone could educate me on this. Thanks.

Bump

I've been online looking up ways to tighten up my timings. Only a few suggestions for raising and lowering voltages on certain settings but I guess I'm not even sure what my memory is capable of. Is anyone able to provide some insight on what I can do?
I can't but I'll surely be happy enough to provide a bump smile.gif

OP - Stress test is only part of it. It's hard to check performance factors when its still on the shelf in the store, or you're gazing at a picture on the net. One the of the key things that I look for is the A/C ripple factor on the DC rails. Cheap components usually mean a higher ripple which in turn will really stress your motherboard or anything plugged-in thereon. Bottom line - always check the specs on the product if available. One thing I never fudge on is the power supply. You really need to protect your investment. That being said, hells bells, that $25 Rocketfish may run forever. Good luck with your build. thumb.gif
