Buying a camera that also shoots video for under $200 vs. just using my iphone 4s

Thread Starter
So I plan on doing some backpacking at the end of the year and would like to have a travel blog well I do. I don't have the space or money to carry a nice videocamera to record with and so I'm not sure if it's worth it to invest in a portable camera that also shoots video or just use my phone. Are there any camera's you know of that will provide better quality video/photos than my iphone for under $200?

Thanks for all your help : )

honestly iphone footage is pretty amazing when shot well with enough light and edited well.

for the purposes of the internet viewing you will not see much extreme difference between movie from an iphone and a P&S camera unless you really desire manual exposure control.

this was shot on iphone 4S, and a tripod with sliders was the only extra equipment used im told. keep in mind this is professionally shot, edited and graded. but still remains footage shot on an iphone for viewing on the internet

for backpacking, I think it would be a good idea just to go ahead and get the seperate camera. Yes it will be a hassle lugging something extra around but IMO you'll be better off.

Not only should you get better quality videos, but imagine dropping or losing your phone. Since you plan on having it out a lot, theres a good risk something might happen to it. Not only would you be out of a camera, but also out of a phone as well. Keep your phone in your pocket and use something else to capture the moments. i would hate to think of being stranded somewhere without a phone.
