I am currently in Kansas visiting from Washington State. I had the ability to check out a MicroCenter in overland park and boy...WAS IT HEAVEN. Walls full of motherboards, heatsinks, video cards, SSD's, cases, heatsinks and more!
So - I've had plans to build a X79 system ever since Intel announced that Ivy Bridge-E won't be released until Q3 of 2013... soI picked up a Core i7 3820 for $229 and a ASrock X79 EXTREME4-M for $220 - $50 for the processor combo! So altogether I spent $420 for X79 motherboard and a socket 2011 Core i7! That's $100 less than what it would have cost me to get them on newegg. I also picked up some motherboards for $17 dollars - two ASUS AM3+ Micro ATX boards AND a Phenom II X3 OEM for $29.99. I also ran across an open box X79 UD5 for $103 sitting on a clearance cart - nearly picked it up - but the horrible reviews made me decide not too.
