MSI and mITX

Got a question for MSI.

Why let ASUS and EVGA have all the mITX fun with the z77 chipset? why isn't MSI jumping into the party?

I think you guys could make a killer z77 ITX board.

not bad, not bad at all. I never saw that when I was scouring around for z77 ITX boards.

The CPU socket placement is bugging me though. I can't mount any high-end tower air coolers on that one.

Well, typically if you're going mITX then one would think you would want small, not monstrous coolers on it tongue.gif

for a media server/HTPC, I can see your point.

but for people who want a big rig in a small package, well... smile.gif

Your answer already explains it.

We can make any kind of board the marketplace wants, but to actually buy? And in volume?

The TAM (Total Available Market) isn't as big as you wish for a mini-ITX market.

Has this reached retail anywhere, though?

I noticed that, even this far into Ivy Bridge, ITX boards are few and far between. There's only three on Newegg, whereas during H55, there were loads.

Yeah I noticed that too. and now with cases like the bitfenix prodigy and sugo series, I'm suprised there aren't more itx boards out there.

having the cpu socket at the top with the southbridge in the middle makes it possible for monster air coolers to be mounted.

I believe development time for a motherboard takes much longer than say, a case.

Are there any plans for a mITX A75 FM1 board?
