I know 750W is overkill, but.......

i5-3570k oc-ed to 4.6 (stock voltages so far), HIS IceQ 7870, 1 SSD, 1 USB external, 1 optical, 3 120mm fans, 1 TY 140 and 1 TY150

All of the PSU calcs show between 400 and 450w for my build. Understood, but the Seasonic X750 is on sale for 110 at Newegg smile.gif

Other than waaaaay too much head room, would I be "wasting" anything by getting such a large wattage PSU?

Im looking for quiet (my ToughPower XT 675w is the loudest thing in my case! but on the other hand I only paid 60 for it), and I know the Seasonic fits that bill.....I know they make lower wattage versions but they are actually more expensive than the 750w right now. Im in a semi-rush, because the return period for my ToughPower ends next week or else Id wait and see if the lower wattage models go on sale.

I got a 750 w for a 7870 and a 3570k as well

Gives me plenty of head room for upgrades, I rather just buy a power supply once instead of buying a 500 watt one now and need more watts later thumb.gif

No, overkill (here) = stupidity.... stupidity is not our middle name, overclock is a totally different thing all together... it's something that offers/provides some returns, it doesn't apply here.

Only money IMO.

Your PSU would be stressed way less that say, if you got a 500W PSU, thus lengthening it's lifespan. You also kind of 'future proof' your PSU for future upgrades.'

Yeah, money-wise the other options would be something like the Rosewill Capstone series. Comparing apples to apples (750W Capstone to 750W Seasonic) they are actually the same price, so the x750 would win there.

With the Capstone I have the option of correct-sizing the PSU I get. 450, 550, 650W versions and are all cheaper than the X750 (EDIT: scratch that, the 650W version is the same price as the X750 on sale). The only wildcard is if they are as quiet and perform as well as the Seasonic. I know they dont have an MOV so temporary power glitches might become an issue, maybe. I also dont think they do the whole "ramp up the fan under load" thing like the Seasonic does so they could potentially be a little louder.

Still cant figure out how all the reviews say my ToughPower is so quiet. It really is the only one of my fans that I actually hear.
