Can I install an old XP Pro 32bit HDD in a new Windows 7 Pro 32bit computer?

I have an older 2005 pentium 4 computer that is running XP Pro 32bit and a new i3-2120 that is running W7 Pro 32bit, what can I do to get all the programs and printer drivers from the old one and into the new one?

Can i just remove and install the older HDD in the newer case? or should I copy everything onto a flash drive and then install on the new one?

Problem is that the drivers are no longer available online for the printers and I cannot find the CD. These are expensive business printers that would cost me $1000 to replace new, but they are in perfect working condition.

Only other option is to keep the old computer for printing documents, but space is at a premium.

Any help is appreciated.

Here is a software that can Backup your drivers and restore them. The software can also go onto the internet and download the latest drivers available.

The software is called Driver Genius Professional Edition.

The windows XP installation wouldn't function properly if you just stuck it in the new machine. You could put it in there and use data from it, but you wouldn't be able to boot. To transfer programs you would need to install them on the new OS, you can't just copy the files unless it a standalone executable. You need the installation files for each program. Same with the drivers unfortunately, I don't of any way to transfer them from an old installation. Maybe someone else does smile.gif

It sounds like you have high end printers, you might be able to get drivers if you call the company.

Edit: Fantasy beat me on the driver issue. That's interesting I've never heard of that program, I'll have to remember that. thumb.gif

Already checked with Canon for the $800 MF6550 and the drivers don't work, and the $450 HP9800 is a large format printer 13x19 that I haven't found the drivers. Both printers are over 5 years old but they work perfect. The salesman said that a 32bit copy of W7 it might work but i guess not...thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
