Displayport Vs HDMI for Multi-Monitor?

Thread Starter
Simple question. Looking to rig a multi-monitor set up however am confused if I need Display port. I would rather use HDMI since Dport is a bit limited however if Dport provide better seamless integration over my monitors then I would rather have Dport. If there is a difference is it significant enough to choose one over the other? help plz

Not really. Depends on your GPU outputs, your monitor inputs and your available cables.

What will work better for your personal setup? That's about it.

Depends on what you mean - HDMI is much more limited that DP (HDMI maxes out at 1920x1200, DP goes far beyond that), however, HDMI support for stuff like Audio is much more common. Personally, I much prefer the DP connector. Another thing worth noting is if you have multiple sources, HDMI switches are cheap as chips, while I haven't even seen DP ones.

A lot of the AMD cards used to require at least one monitor be attached with DisplayPort for Eyefinity - don't know if that's still a thing.

Really, just buy whatever fits your setup. I use a mixture of HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort for my setup. Does the job.

its personal. depends on your monitors and what cable connectors you have available. i have 4 monitors hooked up to the 6970. 3x(1920x1200) monitors in eyefinity DVI-DVI-dp. the other dp hooks up the 30 2560x1600. a 15" is hooked up onboard vga. i'd have liked to hook up the 30 on the onboard dvi but it wont take 2560x1600.

ati cards can still get audio off the dvi if your monitor has speakers. dvi onboard to hdmi monitor.

just depends on your monitors and what connectors you want to use on what....

edit: i chose the dvi over hdmi because my dvi cable was longer. the dvi and hdmi share clock. so i'm maxed out at 4 monitors on the gpu.
