Quick question - reservior elevation

Thread Starter
Does it matter the elevation of my reservoir? I am planning to put it at the very bottom of my case, below everything else in the loop.
Thanks!

really depends on what stuff you have if you have a separate reservior and pump i would think you would have to your pump just under your reservior to help with the flow rate other wise there is a chance your pump could run dry

itll make bleeding the air out of the system a pure nightmare... the air wants to
rise.. and the res in below so the air will collect in the highest points. you can
dry bleed the system to help..

with res out of case, rocking the case on all axises while pump is on (system off)
might burp most of the air.. but again, the air will collect in the highest points.

Also depends of the type of Res. I have mine at the bottom of the case ( Swiftech Micro Res ) but it is designed to remove air so I don't have any problems with bleeding the air in my system.

what?.. all the res do the same thing, collect coolant. there is no "design" that'll
remove air from a system. if the air stays in the rad.. it will not fall to the res.
i get what you are trying to say.. but big air really doesn't move like bubbles.
buoyancy is the key.. air lighter than water, air on top of water, water moves
but air stands still.

as long as the water return level stays above the feed outlet, the air bubbles (tiny)
automatically purges. but air has got to get to the res first... thats the OP's issue...

The design of the reservoir has a huge impact on how easily bubbles of air, especially small bubbles, are able to break free of the water flow and separate out in the reservoir.
You are correct that the air bubbles have to be able to actually get tot he reservoir though.
Putting the reservoir at the bottom of the case, with most/all other components above it, is fighting physics.

Well, I could mount it in my 5.25 inch bays, but not much room to work with. My only reason to put it at the bottom was aesthetics (well, and the fill port would be easier to reach)
This is my res:

Make any difference?
I might just have to sit and stare at my computer for a few while to figure out a new place to put it...

It'll work, as long as your pump is below the top of the water line in the res, preferably by a few inches. Bleeding will be more difficult, but if you've got any flow rate at all you should be able to overcome the bubbles' tendency to float.

Right, makes sense. If I put it at the bottom, I could probably just detach the pump when I need to bleed the system and hold it, the hose should be long enough. I'll do that if there's nowhere else to put it.
Thanks guys.

Itll be tricky. I would just elevate it slightly above the bump. Just put both at the bottom of he case
