Do I need more voltage to maintain 2133Mhz?

  • DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
  • Timing 9-9-9-24
  • Cas Latency 9
  • Voltage 1.5V

 

I've gotten it overclocked to 1866Mhz stable. Today I tried for 2133Mhz and got into Windows and apparently had enough time to do a validator, but then it BSOD on me.

Am I pushing my luck? Is it realistic I can even maintain 2133Mhz? What do you think my highest and safest DRAM voltage would be if you think I can get to 2133Mhz?

 

Both my 1866 and 2133Mhz overclocks used 1.65v.

0.1v above rated voltage is safest, 0.15v above rated volts is less but still safe (on the edge).
That speed will improve your benchmark scores but its slower in real life due to the relaxed timings (CL11).
Lower timings are better & I think faster (e.g. CL9 1600MHz is faster than CL11 1866MHz) than higher timings/speed.

Actually I believe that if you can get the CAS to 10 or below at 2133, the actual latency (in nanoseconds) is faster at 2133 due to the significant increase in throughput, as the amount of "work" done is higher per second, thus the latency occurs more often but takes less time. I am sorry for the poor explanation, I am half asleep, but with Intel CPUs, it seems that the speed has more impact than tight timings. Of course, having both is ideal, but Intel seems to prefer the one over the other.
