Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz. Is getting too hot to handle :| - Page 2

The intel stock heat sink is trash. That is why 9/10 you see someone go with a new heat sink. The Evo is a monster and should do a good job handling things.

You should have first sorted out your stock cooler problem before ordering the CM. Even though the stock cooler is crap, it can easily handle the 8400 at stock without any hiccup. 80C/90C just points to a bad mount or really off sensors.

I haven't ordered it online, its my computer guy. So, basically when I said ordered I meant I have asked him to get one for me. I may choose to not buy anytime (The benefits of sticking to one shop for 10 years biggrin.gif )

How can I know if the sensors are off??
I will remount the fan and apply the thermal paste again.

If you feel comfortable sticking you hand in the case while the system is on carefully try touching the heatsink. If it is warm than you have it mounted properly and my guess is you have a software issue. Try using Coretemp, RealTemp, or HWmonitor. If they all report extremely high and your heatsink is cold to the touch you don't have it mounted properly. Even stock cooling isn't that bad unless it's broken.

That seems a good idea. I will try the software first and then also try the heat sink tip.
Will get back to you on this.

I took this snapshot from SpeedFan.
This is with my cabinet open and room temperature at 22 degrees.

When you applied your thermal paste did you clean the cooler? I'm still leaning towards it not being mounted properly.
