3dMark05 score a bit low?

Hi there, first time poster.

My rig has the following:

XFX GeForce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X
Foxconn 865G7MC-ES Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 865G Micro ATX
CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) (CAS Timings: 2-3-3-6)
Intel Pentium 4 540J Prescott 3.2GHz LGA 775

Here's a screenshot from my RivaTuner menu:

I know my card is a bit old, as it is AGP,and the processor is aging.
My 3dMark05 score:

3437

This seems a bit low for my system specifications. Do you guys have any tips or how to's as to maybe unlocking some pp's, or a safe memory and core clock speed for stock cooling? I know there's debate as to whether or not AGP cards have NV41's, but all I know is that mine does.
Apparently that's a normal score. I did some searching and found out that the 6800XT is a "budget card". It's slightly slower than a normal 6800, which means it should be about the speed of a 6600GT, except overclocks better.

Your CPU really isn't helping the score either...

Yeah, the XT was 160 when I got it, most def. a budget card. Oh, and yeah, my Prescott isn't some X2 at 2.4 Ghz, but is it that serious of a bottleneck?

Thanks for the link gonX

Nah! Your processor is fast enough but you could really gain some 3D horsepower by unlocking some pipes on that card. You will need that rivatuner and a new ati tool to go with it. I've tried it out myself on a 6800LE GDDR3 edition and got an extra pixel quad and one vertex shader to work. After that, I added some more power with a little OC(350MHz from 300) and I got a 3DMark score of 4200 plus. The rig had an AthlonXP3200 to go with the 6800LE

Ok, I started OC'ing it in ATItool, and I got the clock up to 443 mhz without artifacts.

However.

The temperature was at 95 degrees celcius. That's INSANELY high, I'm for sure damaging something. When I reduced it to 421, it said it was idling at 75.

This is on stock cooling. I really should keep it down, or get a new fan or something, yes?

Do you know how to apply AS5 to things? I'd remove the heatsink, clean the GPU off, and then reapply AS5 to it and stick 'er back down.

Should lower temps just a little bit(~10C at least), and costs nearly nothing.

Is the Arctic Silver just like Thermal Paste? Because I have a little bit of that left from the bit that came with my Spire CoolWave II 90mm (Absolute junk by the way, the Intel stock fan is cooler then this, I didn't return it because the pins broke on my Intel fan, and I used the pins from this heatsink and put it on my Intel stock fan.).

Can I put that on my video card?

Oh, and by the way, I repositioned my junky Sound Blaster Live to another PCI slot, which was right next to the 6800's stock fan. And on top of that, I installed another 120mm right next to my 6800, and hooked it up to my molex, and I idle at around 55 now and at full capacity with 450Mhz and 1070Mhz I max out at 83. This is a little better, yes?

hmm, his motherboard is based on the i865 and uses DDR and AGP.. never seen a board for 775 like that.
might want to think about upgradeing to something else. this guy has some good deals http://www.xoxideforums.com/sell/73570-fs-system.html

Before OCing, try unlocking some pixel quads first n maybe a vertex shader also. I see you already have rivatuner installed so try it out. Its quite safe and you can always turn them back off if they don't work well. After that, try to OC.

As far as temps are concerned, try as5 or a better cooler and keep it from reaching 90.
