$500 budget tablet

Thread Starter
i'm in the market for a tablet for my wife. this is also going to be a learning curve for me because i don't know anything about tablets. yesterday we went tablet shopping and we looked at quite a few from asus to ipad's.

my wife is an LPN, but is also a student becoming an RN. so her main uses would be work, school, social media, games and things like photo shop. she really likes the galaxy note. it has a 10 inch screen and built in stylus pen.

my main question would be, how does this compare to other tablets in the $500 range.

Built in stylus pen is hard. IF anything a galaxy tab or transformer should be fine. Just keep the pen in her pocket.

I have a Toshiba Excite 10. You can get them for aprox $375 now. The build quality is the best of any Android tablet I have handled. Its a fast Tegra 3 tablet and its the most stable of any of my Android devices past or present. Plus it has full sdcard slot, usb host capability, and a micro hdmi out.

Ah, well the Note 10.1 is a good choice if you don't mind the price tag.

yes... the note seems to hold its ground at a $500 price point.

The only downside is updates are not fast since its not a huge seller. It is still on android 4.03 and I don't know when or if it will get Jellybean.

For $500

You can get a MSI WindPad 110W-014US with Windows 8
AMD Z-Series Z-01 Dual Core (1.0GHz) processor
10.0" 1280x800 IPS Screen
4GB DDR3 Memory
32GB mSATA SSD
AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics..

Its really good on the paper, the only down side is its 3.3lbs.. thats like more than twice what an android tablet weights

If you want an android tablet, I'd go with the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T

NVIDIA® Tegra™ 3 4-plus-1™ Quad-core processor @ 1.6Ghz with 12-core GPU (most others are either 1.2 or 1.3 ghz)
10.1-inch 1920x1200 WUXGA Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass 2 Screen
1GB DDR3
32GB eMMC Flash
8MP rear, 2MP front camera
1.32lbs

Lighter, better camera, sound and battery life. But windows 8 seems promising for tablets aswell.
