How do I palm a mouse?

I know this may sound silly but bear with me here. I'm a fingertip grip user and that has done a number on my wrist tendons and triceps, shoulder and upper back muscles so I decided to switch to palm as it is the least RSI-inducing grip style. So I went out to the store, tried out a couple of mice (that hump on Deathadder is ridiculous) and ended up with G400. But now as I'm trying it out, whatever I do makes no sense and doesn't feel normal/natural, I can't simply rest my hand on it. The way of holding it that seems more natural than others makes my hand go cold. I mean I can fingertip it but that's the very thing I'm trying to avoid. My hand is around 19cm from middle finger to wrist. Help me out with some advice?

p.s. I can't rest my elbow on the arm rest or forearm on the edge of the desk due to a different injury so basically the arm's weight is on the palm itself (with fingertip grip it's on that little bumpy bone on the outer part of the wrist and that caused me a lot of problems over time)

If fingertip is your natural grip, I don't think any amount of explanation will help you get used to palm.

One thing that I've noticed, as a long-time fingertip grip user, is that the weight of your mouse makes a big difference to your comfort. Switching to an ultra-light mouse might make it possible for you to continue using the fingertip grip.

I have to find a way to rest the weight of my arm on my palm instead on my wrist. It's either that or gg gaming. I was using Spawn until recently which isn't that heavy anyway. Even if I were to listen to your advice and get an even lighter non-narrow mouse that would mean I'd have to get a SS mouse such as Kana/Xai/Sensei but their non-ergo shapes would make me have to rest my hand flat on my wrist twisting my forearm even more away from it's natural position. :/

Maybe an ergonomic mousepad, then? If you get one with the right shape, you can rest the heel of your hand rather than your wrist on it. I doubt using a palm grip and putting all of your weight on the mouse would help; on the contrary, you'll need a lot of energy to move the mouse that way.

Also, Cooler Master claims a weight of 142g for the Spawn, which isn't light. When I say light, I mean preferably under 75g.

First off, if you have your mouse in a death grip, stop that.

WIth that out of the way, try lowering your sensativity so that you need to make bigger motions to move, this will make you hold your arm up.

And what kind of pad do you have?

I don't know about ergonomic mousepads? If you're refering to that wrist rest gel I can't have that cause it closes up my carpal tunnel. The Spawn itself is 85g, that is probably with cable what you found.

I used to grip Krait like that, it was so narrow and slippery I had no choice and it cramped up my hand bad. But that was long ago.

On Spawn I used 1600 DPI and it was slightly more than I would have liked but I had no choice. I've tried 800 DPI on G400 but it just feels so slow to me, I mean I understand where you're coming from, but somewhere in my mind it bugs me that I have to make so much mouse movement and I feel I'm too slow ingame. So I changed it to 1400 DPI. Do you think I should make the sacrifice and practice playing at 800 DPI? It still doesn't fix the fact that I can't find a good way to palm the mouse... maybe I just need time to adjust but I'm not overly optimistic.

I have a regular QcK pad.

I'm pretty sure palming the mouse by definition requires you to rest your wrist on the table.

Fixed.

It doesn't feel right because it's not your natural grip redface.gif . I have a Deathadder and claw it, feels weird whenever I palm it but can just about manage a fingertip grip for short periods.

It's just the same as being right handed and master writing with your left hand. Just doesn't work.
