How do I palm a mouse? - Page 2

This is Palm grip

Claw

Fingertip (this is what I use) I rest my arm on my desk (from about my elbow to my wrist) control the mouse with movement from just my hand. forward and backward movements are mostly all from my thumb and pinky finger extending or retracting, my arm doesn't move much at all.

On Spawn I used 1600 DPI and it was slightly more than I would have liked but I had no choice. I've tried 800 DPI on G400 but it just feels so slow to me, I mean I understand where you're coming from, but somewhere in my mind it bugs me that I have to make so much mouse movement and I feel I'm too slow ingame. So I changed it to 1400 DPI. Do you think I should make the sacrifice and practice playing at 800 DPI? It still doesn't fix the fact that I can't find a good way to palm the mouse... maybe I just need time to adjust but I'm not overly optimistic.
I have a regular QcK pad.
You can make finer adjustments to distance per rotation by lowering in game sensativity, that's probably worth a shot. Whenever you're playing with a lower sensativity you won't need to put your wrist on the table at all.

It might also be worthwhile to get a softer pad.

111-113g depending on scale.

Closer to 107g if you happen to have a specific model from the initial OEM.

There are ergonomic arm rests that may help alleviate pressure, but I don't know if they would be suitable for you.
You should definitely avoid any kind of wrist-rest for your mousing hand though, as they actually put pressure on your wrist - exactly where you don't want it. If you lay your hand and forearm flat on a table, you should see that there is a gap underneath your wrist - this is where a wrist-rest tends to put pressure.

I have heard that Fellowes palm supports with "Health-V" can be beneficial as they raise your palm, flattening your hand position without putting pressure on your wrist or compressing the nerves, but I have no experience with them.

You might want to look into the Contour Mouse, or Handshoe mouse. I don't know that I would recommend the Evoluent or other vertical mice, because while they stop you twisting your arm, they simply move the pressure points around, and the way you have to grip or move them for fine control can also lead to RSI-related pain.

I have no idea on their suitability for gaming, but something like the G400 is still relatively small, and seems more like a finger-grip mouse than a palm one.

Oh my god, I never knew such a thing exist. I've been facing this problem all my life when using PC w/o arm chairs, for e.g at LANs. This would be a perfect solution for my cause, if I'm not bothering you can you give me a link of that specific arm wrest listed there? Or a website which I can choose from/with varieties if possible. Also can the height be adjusted, say lifting it higher or bigger ones which can support a greater part of the arm(upto elbow, if possible).

Agh, sorry for all these questions. Rep+ my friend. smile.gif

That one came from this site, but I just picked a picture from a Google Image Search for "ergonomic arm rest"

I'm a fingertip grip user and that has done a number on my wrist tendons and triceps, shoulder and upper back muscles so I decided to switch to palm as it is the least RSI-inducing grip style. So I went out to the store, tried out a couple of mice (that hump on Deathadder is ridiculous) and ended up with G400. But now as I'm trying it out, whatever I do makes no sense and doesn't feel normal/natural, I can't simply rest my hand on it. The way of holding it that seems more natural than others makes my hand go cold. I mean I can fingertip it but that's the very thing I'm trying to avoid. My hand is around 19cm from middle finger to wrist. Help me out with some advice?
p.s. I can't rest my elbow on the arm rest or forearm on the edge of the desk due to a different injury so basically the arm's weight is on the palm itself (with fingertip grip it's on that little bumpy bone on the outer part of the wrist and that caused me a lot of problems over time)

I think the best way to start palming is to lower the cpi to 400 or so and then you will need to move your whole arm while gripping the mouse preferably with your palm on top of it.

Fingertip grip is usually related to higher cpi and small finger movements do the job, whereas palmgrip users use wrist or arm movements.

Thanks. But that seems too expensive for me. Any US links, or cheaper alternatives that does the same job? Thanks again. smile.gif

I hope I'm not derailing the thread. frown.gif
