I7 920 Bottleneck - Page 2

A 920 at 4GHZ, if it's a D0, should be controllable as far as thermal goes. That H60 should be able to keep the temps in check. But holy mother dude, 480's are like black holes of power consumption and your room will prolly go up a degree or ten when you fire up a pair of those. biggrin.gif

Still though, props for that much WIN. thumb.gif

a degree or ten...hah. Just with my 1 gtx 480 my room increases like 10 degrees, I keep thinking about doing SLI since they are so cheap but these cards really heat up the room. Good god I can't imagine how hot a room would get with 3 gtx 480's. It would probably best to attach a flexible AC tube to the back and vent them outside the house.

So the verdict is that Core i7 920 is a no bottleneck if overclocked good. Besides 3X SLI GTX480 will not be 300 % GTX480, more like 220 %, so no bottleneck.

You should give sli 480's a try first. I love mine. Watercool them and overclock the hell out of them. If you are not happy with 2 then add a third. H2o is the way too go though. I love my cards!

Nothing proper cooling and custom fan curves won't remedy. My cards don't hardly ever cross 80c and when they do its hot in my little room already.

According to Anandtech the GTX480 is the most single core power hungry card of all time in GeForce series. It exceeds the power peek consumption over 300 W, 50 W more than specified by NVIDIA.

So triple SLI GTX480 would juice up 900 W of pure power...

Ridiculous setup..
