corsair vengeance 1600

Thread Starter
I purchase the corsair vengeance 8gb 1600. I placed it in the ram slot, separating each other ( Empty, Ram, Empty, Ram). When I go into the bios it says 1333 instead of 1600. How do i change it without messing with the voltage or stuff like that. I got the ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS.
Also my computer would freeze at times for a few seconds. I'm able to move my mouse but programs would having the loading icon. I used memtest86 and receive errors, could my ram be why i'm lagging?

If you're getting memtest errors, you probably got a faulty RAM kit. You could try RMAing it.

also, try each ram stick one at a time to see if both give errors or just one

just one of the ram card gives me error. It freezes in the memtest86, once at 30mins, the other time at 4hrs of running the test
Could the memtest86 errors be false positive meaning the errors are not real errors

not likely. Just to be safe rma the one that gives you the error and use the one that does not until your new ram arrives

Also, just a thought. Put in the ram that does not spit up errors in memtest86 and see if you still have the problems you mentioned.

Also the ram setting is in advanced mode. Under the AI tweaker tab 3rd option down is memory frequency.

Only one has error. Corsair wrote i should return both just to be safe. That would leave me without a computer for a week or two.
If i do RMA both, what are the chances of me receiving a bad one again? I don't to wait another week or two after receiving a new one.

I would NOT rma both if one is good. Chances of Corsair sending you more bad ram is low.

Ive had to RMA ram with corsair once in the past. Once i shipped my ram out, I had my new set in my hand about a week later. They were definitely speedy with getting me back up and running.

I had the same thing, only one of my sticks was bad when i first purchsaed. However they insist on sending both back to "ensure they will send back a matching set". I had no issues with it.
