It's overkill and I personally wouldn't put windows on it.

Here is something I posted for another user. It is great for a HTPC. I personally would put xbmc on it because I love xbmc biggrin.gif

Thanks for the feedback! Overkill is fine haha, I need windows to use a web based stream called PPS to watch dramas and whatnot. The client I am building for wants speed so I figured and i3 + SSD would be plenty of speed for them.

+rep for everyone's help smile.gif

Well does PPS take advantage of gpu acceleration? if it does, an entry level trinity/llano chip would be better. Win7 benefits from GPU acceleration, so an APU would be better for general win7 tasks. Either way, you will not notice much difference, I am just trying to give you a second, "just in case" option. tongue.gif

Hm, I think so, as it is flash based. I am a die-hard Intel fan so switching to AMD is a big no for me, no matter how much better they are lol.
Thank you for your input, I can always add a cheap graphics card for GPU acceleration if needed.

NewEgg has the 3225 for only $134.99 for the next 24 hours or so. Same processor as the 3220 but it has Intel's HD 4000 graphics for only $5 more. You may need to sign up for their mailing list in order to use the promo code (EMCJNNA23).

Also, considering the hardware you have listed, particularly the lack of any video cards, you may want to consider a case with a smaller footprint than the 5000B. You could fit everything into something as small as a Wesena ITX2 ($64). A 380w PSU is insanely overpowered for this setup as well. You won't even exceed 100w. You can pick up a PicoPSU + 102w Adapter for about $55. You'll be spending a little more, but you'd be wasting a lot of space with that case... believe me, I have the 6000B, which is only slightly taller, and equal in width/depth. It rivals my giant Onkyo receiver in size.

If you do go for something smaller, you'd need a MIni-ITX motherboard. ASRock makes two in the price range of the one you have listed, one with a B75 ($89.99) and H77 ($99.99). You'll also need an optical drive with the eject button on the left-hand side (There are versions of the case for right-hand but they are out of stock). You can get drives based off Sony's BC-5600S on eBay for as low as $47.

So to recap...

Case: Wesena ITX2 - $64
PSU: PicoPSU + 102w Adapter - $55
MB: ASRock B75M-ITX - $89
CPU: i3-3225 - $135
BluRay: $47
+ other previous parts/software ($243)
Total: $633

That's about what you would pay for your previous build, yet more powerful, with a considerably smaller footprint.

Last but not least, if you can do without the BluRay drive (and I highly suggest you consider ditching it) then you could get something even smaller, say an M350 ($102) which comes with a 150w PSU. This would cut an additional $60+ off the price, and give you an even smaller footprint.

im guessing that M350 case can only hold one hdd? 2.5? 3.5?
