Why not? Diablo 3 cost $60 and the RMAH ended up making Blizzard millions of $$ (and still making), so why not this?

If anything the typical gamer has indirectly shown game companies that they WANT to spend more money on games, as much money as possible. DLC and micro-transaction based games have been wildly successful. The gaming industry would be stupid NOT to take this opportunity.

And either way, the publisher getting money means they can continue spending money to get the developer's games out there. Whether that be on additional advertising for an existing game, or a campaign for a new game.
