I understand that games like tribes are free to play but guildwars 2 and wow aren't exactly "free" but people don't seem to have a problem forking 15 bucks a month for wow, so what's new about this? I don't like the idea of micro-transactions either but don't make it seem that ubisoft are the first people to implement the change.

I can fully understand guild wars and guild wars 2 having micro transactions. They pay for their server costs so we don't have be ripped off monthly like with WoW.

Also to all of the people that are suggesting boycotting Ubisoft... watch this please:

Everyone wants a piece of the delicious cake. That is, the microtransaction system where most people are willing to shell out a small bucks each time, but multiple instances over a long period of time biggrin.gif

After the butchering Ubisoft did to the Tom Clancy games, I hope they go under.

Actually it does. While I don't like microtransaction in any game I can tolerate it in a game like GW2 as it serves a specific purpose. They are not just there to nickel and dime you so that the game company can make a little extra profit. The money form the microtransactions is used to keep the servers up and running and keep new content coming. And its new content as in free patches that add gear/dungeons/quest and not DLC's you have to pay for.

There is a difference in what GW2 does what Free-to-play games (like TF2 and LoL) and what ubisoft plans on doing.

So you don't think Ubisoft or Gearbox or THQ or Activision or EA uses the money from microtransactions to keep their servers up and running, and to create more content for their games?

lol

For every single person here saying that micro-transactions are the wrong way to go and will fail, there are 50 people who will waste their money on them. The same with DLC, the more people that buy it, especially day-1 DLC, the more companies will keep cutting content from the game and offering it for an extra fee. DLC today is nothing like expansion packs you used to get 10 years ago, and it both saddens and angers me that these companies are able to get away with it.
