MCP 355 Pump is LOUD!

Thread Starter

I guess it was the only part of my rig of which I had zero knowledge and that's why I decided to go with the pump-res combo from Frozencpu.

I get really mad and after a while I realize that the hum of the pump is making me stressed even when using headphones. Its a weird situation because the noise is not loud but I can hear it with my headphones (someone with more knowledge in the soundwave field might have a good explanation).

I just found out through Swiftech's website that they posted a note saying this pump is louder than the MCP 350 adn the 655.

So for those seeking silence, learn from my mistakes and DO YOUR RESEARCH (and avoid the 355).

Any recommendations for a new very silent pump? and perhaps a nice res as well although Im looking at those helix ones and they look really nice.

The D5 vario set to 4 and the mcp35x turned down a bit are supposed to be the way to go for silence.

A properly decoupled 355 in the case shouldn't be that bad. When I had it in the drive bays of my HAF932 I found it to be a bit too loud. In the floor of my Elysium with a swiftech heatsink I don't really notice it.

Are you using the front panel input for your headphones? If so those are notorious for having issues with interference. I've yet to have a case where the front panel sounded as clean as plugging directly into the soundcard.

Perhaps you still have tiny air bubbles in your lines and res? As until those are gone it will be a lot louder then. Thanks
post #4 of 21
from my experience the mcp355(with ek x top) is a rather annoying pump, I used one for about 5 months before I got rid of it. Easiest way to make it quite is to have it running on a thick piece of foam, it at least makes it tolerable. Ultimately I grabbed a d5 variable at 5 settings it's still a fair bit quieter than the 355 I had, hard to say if it was defective or not since I never bothered with anything in that line again (350/35x/355) and I can assure mine didn't have any bubbles in it.

Decouple, decouple, decouple. I have a PMP-400 (Laing DDC 3.25, MCP 355) with an XSPC Res and a MCP 35X. Both are suspended by the tubing on the top intake, running full speed. Virtually silent. Cannot hear the pumps over my Gentle Typhoons at 1200 RPM.

What does decoupling mean?

What does decoupling mean?

Mounting it so it is cushioned from the case.

355 is a bit louder than a 350 and they both are not comparable to a 35x considering a 35x runs at 15% duty cycle and tops out at 50% if you've setup the pwm right. It depends on your noise floor I suppose but I was aware of the 355's noise.

I see. I used some velcro to be able to remove my pump any time, so Im assuming using the neoprene will help a bit right?

You do not want to use foam or velcro, as either method has serious downsides. Get a pump stand or mount it off the tubing.
