When i first bought my 7800GS it was running in an abit kw7 mobo, and an XP3000+ Barton I used to score 54k in aqua mark III which is crappy.
When i upgraded my mobo to my socket 939 epox and 3500+ my score shot up to 78k all at stock settings now mind you.. When i overclocked my cpu to 2.7 my score shot up to 83k .. See the bottleneck?
Having a faster cpu working in conjunction with a fast gpu will yield decent results. For instance when i had this card in with the barton cpu i would play ut2004 at maxed settings and on some maps would experience screen lag.
When i upgraded all that went away. Now all my problems are only server side. So yes bottlenecks do exsist. And anyone who says they dont have no idea what they are talking about. I have experienced it first hand.
So yes you will see some improvements with that card. But! to unleash its full potentional you need a faster cpu.
and hard drives only effect the loading time of the game. Not how fast the game will play..
But a faster hard drive will be benificial to your page file. if its on its own controller.
also having a fast proc period will boost up your scores because everything calculates faster. it might not be as much bottlenecking as just CPU intesive as well.... for instance going from a 3500+ to an fx-55 to an opty made my score jump considerably, but all i have is the x800xl radeon which isn't a hog of a card...
what i'm trying to get at is that going from a barton 32 bit core to a 64 bit venice is a big jump in CPU performance as well... just check out yoru CPU scores
