Love the incremental upgrades from both companies. Good for us gamers. smile.gif
You're very naive to think Nvidia with their Beta 310.33 can boost performance by 15%, releasing it one, two day after Beta 12.11, while AMD worked on it for months. rolleyes.gif

If you really think that they released it against the 12.11's then you are the one that is naive.

So... "We may experience - which means we won't experience anything" while the release notes stating 400/500/600 series... AMD released the "Never Settle" driver, and you thought it would be a great idea the next day to spread a similar tactic... A fine tactic; but anyway.

Personally, I haven't experienced anything on Skyrim and Deus X ( 400 series ). Not that I was expecting, but better start clearly writing only "600 series". AMD did this, at least.

Sorry, having a hard time following your post, but what I think you're trying to say is that I'm being disingenuous in claiming that the performance may increase on cards other than the 600 series? And you're also inferring that we developed and released a new driver in less than a day in response to AMD's driver?

As much as I would love our development turnaround to be less than 24 hours, the contents of this driver were finalized last week and the story written then too.
Between then and now we did a bit of QA and fixed a bug to try and make the driver as good and stable as possible.

I freely admitted above that we haven't tested the performance of this driver on other generations of cards, but given past experience some improvements tend to work on said cards also.

I mean 310.33 are just regular drivers update and we can't compare them to 12.11, so why is everyone saying "ok, amd released fast drivers, but look, Nvidia boosting their own as well , so the scores are settled".

My post was taken a bit out of context.....I merely pointed out that it's a good thing for both AMD and Nvidia owners having both companies put out drivers that boost performance. Response from Nvidia not meant as in the latest AMD drivers but response in competition in general from both companies providing good driver support as of late. Geeez people.

The thread became alive when an OCN member wanted to see how the new AMD driver shaped up from the past. Nvidia coming out with a beta also gives Nvidia owners something to compare again to with AMD's new drivers.

Yes we all know AMD has always been better than Nvidia for crossfire, tri-fire and quad. Nvidia though has improved their SLI performance with Kepler from the benchmarks it seems. Past that and AMD takes the crown with tri and quad scaling. If we get any actual entries it will be interesting to see how they do now.

Edtied to add: The 7970 is better than the 670 over clocked or not.

SO now that 12.11's are out...

I am being offered two MSI Ref 7950's, an EK waterblock,. and some cash for my dual EVGA 670 FTW's...

i cant decide. I had the 7970 at launch, and hated it....switched the Green, and loved em.

Now that 12.11's are out, looks like the playing field is getting a little more even.

Please advise OCN Gurus!

Are you happy with your 670's? If so, keep them. If not, trade them. Simple as that.

How come I never hear anyone about microstuttering in topics about SLI vs CFX?
6950 CFX microstuttering drove me absolutely nuts, sure I had 100 fps in BF3 but it felt like 30 to me at times..
460 SLI never showed any microstuttering (other issues though), while the 5770 CFX before that had the same crap like my 6950's.

For now, I rather buy 1 high-end GPU and stay away from CFX and SLI, it's both still not perfect..

I've been sitting on the fence like the OP in this thread too. I have the choice of 2 MSI 7970 lightnings, or 2 asus 670 DCII's.

While from a raw fps point of view the 7970s are hands down the clear winners here, having experience in both 4850 crossfire and 5850 crossfire, I get annoyed with all of the flickering of textures in multiple games. I am seeing a lot of threads where even single 7970 users are experiencing flickering in lots of games and of course in crossfire they are seeing this too.

Nvidia SLI users : is this a common issue for you too? I've seen a lot of people switch from AMD crossfire to Nvidia SLI and the common response is "its just smoother and less hassle" - this appeals to me, however of course SLI will have its own set of issues so i'd like to hear from 7970 crossfire and 670 SLI users alike, hows your experience been?

id be willing to take a marginal hit on FPS (probably not even noticeable in most games) for a smoother, less hassle and flicker free experience.

But then, when its all said and done, I want my cards to last as long as possible coz having 3 kids means I may not see this kind of money again for a long time lol - so the 3gb on the 7970's is very appealing with future proofing in mind.

unfortunately the 4gb 670's are just too expensive for my budget.

So you can see this is why I am going around and around in circles. I feel your pain OP!
