Newbie question about GPU water cooling.

Thread Starter
Alright, so my right right now is in the middle of a complete overhaul, and during this overhaul, I am expecting to go full-on watercooling. I will be using a Silverstone Fortress FT02B-W case and will have a GTX 670 in there. I will be using dual 1440p monitors for 3D animation, and so therefore I am considering going to a 4GB version of the 670. However, I know the extra vRAM is located on the back of the card's pcb.

So my question is if I purchase a full-cover water block for the 670 such as this one, will it do a proper job of cooling the vRAM chips on the back. I know that the stock cooler doesn't really do much in the terms of cooling performance, but I did notice that the card comes with a backplate, and I will be taking the backplate off in order to put the waterblock on. Will this have any negative effects on the card? Thanks for the input!

This is the card in question: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130785

It provides passive cooling only. If that bugs you the EK waterblock you listed also has a backplate you can buy. Others with backplates include the EVGA waterblock (not sure about 670 but I think so), and Heatkiller that I know of.
