BTRFS or ZFS or EXT4 for my finial pick of a great Distro

I have asked this question in other forums but as this is my home so to speak I wanted to get a opinion of you guys on here

I have a

64GB ssd which I have been running as such
/Boot ---- ext4
/Root ---- ext4

1TB HDD also at the same time with this
/Swap ---- LS
/Home ---- ext4

now I have been thinking of switching over to BTRFS as just replacing the /Root with BTRFS or ZFS and using a software raid on the 1TB HDD with another 1TB HDD that I have and not sure if BTRFS could be used for that as well?
I have many questions and just a FYI the Distro is Sabayon a Gentoo fork which has proven to be about the best out of box OS I have come across yet even though there are many other I like this one just fits the best all around!

I have seen many different setups as far as partitions are concerned and I am open to any and all suggestions on this Please respond ASAP I am going ahead with the replacement OS install soon and could really use this last piece of advice Thanks

can't use zfs for / to my knowledge. btrfs is near the same speed as ext4. unstable use at your own risk.

I would just use ext4. you can roll it into btrfs later when it gets more stable

What's this box used for? If you're already familiar with the Gentoo way of working, then FreeBSD might be an option, and then you can have your next gen fs (namely ZFS) and still have the port/age methodology. And, to be frank, I think FreeBSD is a massively better OS than Gentoo anyway, though i have no experience with the fork you're using.

BTRFS has a lot of neat features like compression and has a built in software raid. It is good to note that you can just upgrade ext4 to BTRFS whenever you feel like it is stable enough for your box. I use gentoo so the compression is pretty nice for portage. Since Sabayon uses the ~arch version of gentoo I'd suppose it uses one of the latest kernels?
I think EXT4 is slightly faster infact http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=linux_33_btrfs&num=1. BTRFS for the features EXT4 for stability.

ext4 supports compression and Linux already has a number of software RAID solutions.

Plus compression is an overrated feature these days as most content are already compressed within the file itself (videos, images, music, office documents, etc) and you can't compress an already compressed file. Well, you can try, but you'll rarely gain anything in doing so.

Where BtrFS comes into it's own is stuff like CoW, snapshotting and such like. But given it's still only beta software, I'd be wary of using BtrFS for anything other than non-critical desktops; and even on those, it's probably not worth it when compared with ext4. However, given the choice between file systems for storage, I'd almost always lump for ZFS.

Just double checked ext4's spec sheet, and it doesn't support file system level compression. I'm quite surprised by this as even NTFS does that (and has done for years). Not that it matters though, unless you're dealing with large amounts raw uncompressed data on a regular basis (which few people ever do), then you'd gain very little from fs level compression.
