which is better for gaming 4 core phenom black or 6 core black? - Page 5

Personally, i feel that my phenom 2 965 is fine, i will be upgrading to Haswell, but that's beside the point. The Phenom II are great chips for the price; they OC well and can hold their own. I fail to see how you can say 'they are old and not very good' as a line of argument - they are old yes, are they good? Yes.
In terms of your question, Games won't use over 4 cores, get the 965 BE unless you plan on doing video rendering, editing etc.

Being this is my 1st build I can't really complain about amd, sure intel might have the better numbers ande all but for now I will stick with this brand until my wallet thickens up,then I might consider giving intel a shot.for a guy like me as long as I can play my games iam happy if anything id like 2 try the amd a10 apu do u guys think that will make a decent gaming rig if I add a descrete gpu to it?

Yes you would get good performance, however if you have the cash to buy the apu and an additional video card to crossfire with it now your better of with a non apu cpu and a designated video card just be better in the long run but if you just want the apu for now its a great choice! Just make sure your get the new trinity series like you said the A10 5800k is nice I've played around with it

this is wrong dang it. why does everyone keep thinking this :-/

it works a Three core when you have less Then 6 threads.

3 thread will get Full a 4 way Front end decode and L1 Instruction cache along with the L2 cache full usage.

4 threads or more will have the module split up it's full 4 way decode front end by half causing it be a 2 way decode core and only use 1mb of the L2 cache in the module.

this can causes a 33% drop in each threads speed since both now have physical register files are are different.

how ever this is also negated by a speed up factor of similar instructions. it's 10% speed up for doing the same work like fpu/SSE or stuff like that.

FX is more of a hybrid chip then a an actually 8 core or 4 core. since it work as both.

As really a Module is nothing more then to compete with HT. Not the best idea when It comes to single thread performance, or at least till they find away to combine the two integer cores in a module to act as one during heavy single thread tasks. A cool concept but makes for a weaker gaming chip and a stronger media/encoding chip. Though Until AMD fixes the big problems with the architectural it will be noting more then a Cheaper alternative to getting a intel chip.

A module can work as full core but only with a single thread.

I can't fathom wasting a dime on a sideways move. As far as gaming performance is concerned, the best place for the money that is about to be spent here is in a bank account, waiting for an actual reason to buy hardware.

if your going by single thread I've match single thread with cinebench 11.5r with my Phenom II with MY FX at the same speed the FX will have a higher core clock and give out more FPS then phenom II.

I think depends on the games you'll be playing.
