New samsung ram worth it over my old set?

Hey guys,

I just checked my email and I got a 20% off coupon for memory from Newegg =) i have been looking at the Samsung 8gb kit that everyone is going crazy over because it overclocks so amazingly with little effort. Would it be worth it over my current memory? The coupon ends tomorrow night so i have limited time =P

Would the overclocked memory help? my current memory is at

Will i see an improvement? I was never really big or clear on memory before so that's why I'm asking now. The current set i have i got on sale at the time.

I'm also afraid that my MB wont support it. Biostar TA890FXE. I know it says it supports up to 1600mhz with overclocking but is there a chance i can pass that. There is no such thing as limits here on OCN thumb.gif unless it causes a fire of course lol

Your current set is good.

Only a X79, or Z77 is going to get really high frequencies on the Samsung ram.

A Z68 would be good enough for 1866 to 2133.

Yea I was kinda thinking of that. I knew that Intel chips love this ram but never really saw any AMD users have them. Its nice to know for when I make my move to the new Intel chip set for April! =) Thanks for the help. I just felt like I didn't want to waste a good discount coupon =P

Honestly, no. You might see some slightly higher clock speeds, but ultimately, you won't ever see the performance difference in most applications, especially since your RAM is already in a good place.

When I used them for my old AMD platform, they never got better than 1600mhz CAS8 and my even older Muskin RAM had no problems hitting 1600mhz CAS7 or 1333mhz CAS6. I can say that these will clear any heatsink-related headaches you might face and it's always a surprise to see them at just about half the height of regular RAM.
