GTX 680 peaks at 85C

Thread Starter
New workstation with a ton of tech for color grading....but with 3 GTX 680 4GB card's I can't help but throw in a gaming boot drive. Finishing up the build and testing today ( 100F outside, 82 inside). While playing GW2 at 2560x1600 with two of the GTXs in SLI and one for PhysX...my primary GTX 680 would peak at about 85C. That's the highest it would go and only for a few moments...usually hovering around 75-82. Is 85 an acceptable temp or should I be worried. In several SLI 680 reviews I have seen their temps reaching 83. I'm running a strong custom fan profile as well. With a dual Xeon, 11 hard drives, a Raid card, a Decklink card, and 3 GTX 680s there is only so much you can do to cool it off. Nvidia states the thermal limit is 98. Would love to hear some thoughts if that 85C peak is too high or safe.?

With all that crap and with 3 of the cards, 85C is fine (for a few moments, its even better!). If you're really not happy, put them all under water.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking it was a bit hot, but all thing's considering not too hot. I would love to liquid cool them...but sadly there is very little space left in the system for all the water cooling gear, with all of the other workstation gear. There was barely enough room for the H60 radiator's and fans sadly. Plus after this build I'm broke for awhile. Best I can do is maybe swap some fans around or crank some case fans higher. Just wanted to get a feel for what the community thought of the temps as they stand. Thx

Head over to the WC section - if you really want to liquid cool with a custom loop they may help you out, even if you don't have room INSIDE for rads. smile.gif

Consider yourself lucky, these 400 series cards laugh at 80C. Without 100% fan, mine can get up in the mid-90s while folding, pretty easily. Water or "the mod" may make you feel better though- or even just decent aftermarket air.

This is one of the major reasons that I am turning my back on reference cards with a blower-style fan. Their cooling is just too unreliable.

Yeah I may look into aftermarket air in the interim.
