I'm thinking of doing something 'special' possibly as far as a graphic layer between them if it works right... wink.gif
Sounds like a plan.

A few minutes ago I had a Z87 UD5H & a 4770K in my cart on Amazon, when I realized something.......I have no idea what RAM to get, and last look Gigabyte didn't have a listing for this board yet!

When I buy a first generation board I'm careful about which RAM I get.....so I need to do some investigating, and soon I hope Gigabyte will get their arse in gear and get an official listing w/downloads, etc, for the new boards.

Here is a look at a bunch of Z87 boards from hardware.info :

me going to wait a couple of months and let them get the bugs worked out. then I think a Itx board will be nice.

I don't blame you. Being an early adopter is not recommended for everyone, and usually follows with forums getting flooded with panicky folks trying to figure out what they are doing.
I may gripe, but I don't whine. biggrin.gif

The only known bugs with the 8 chipset are the occasional loss of connectivity with USB 3.0 devices when coming out of deep sleep. Absolutely no problem for me as I tend to save all important files before I ever get up from the desk. Plus I don't use external USB 3.0 storage as I prefer SATA III, of which my new board will have 10 connectors.

As soon as I decide what RAM I'm going to run I'll get my orders in.

Wow. Just wow. Already the gloom and doom bunch is out in the ranks complaining about Haswell.

I like new tech. That's it, I like new tech. I just can't understand why every time Intel releases a new cpu there are always people raining on my parade when I'm about to upgrade.

I've had some great advice since I've been a member here, but on the other hand I've seen things I can scarcely understand. There always seem to be people lurking about that evidently never have anything positive to say. If I like white, then it absolutely should be black. If I make my own wiring, then I'm a fool because someone else can do it better. If I delid I'm an idiot because surely I'll destroy it....and on and on, you get the drift.

But the deed is done. I'm going Haswell, I may even delid it, I'll probably use white when I should have used black, I'll make it tall when it should have been short.
But I'll damn sure have fun doing it. thumb.gif

Oh i know what you are talking about and you should have or I bet you have seen some of the things posted on my log. Seems like some people don't have anything but negative to say and just want to cause an argument. ... If I don't like something I will say this but I hope not in a bad way because we all have our own likes and dislikes...

The main reason I am going to wait is really why buy it now when I will not be able to use it for a few months anyway... And I have some parts I need to sell before I do this..

Congrats on all your new parts! You have way too much fun. biggrin.gif Cant wait to see what you do with the acrylic.
Are you going to do anything about the blue sinks on your new ram or the yellow on the new board?

Then by all means get it. It's funny, but my experience is pretty much the same - but in the exact opposite direction as yours. All I seem to hear (read) from people on here is "you're stupid for NOT upgrading to the latest whatsit and being an early adopter." As if there's a problem sticking with something that works until something else is proven to provide better performance (in an area that I find it lacking currently).

Basically, from the earliest testing and the stated design goals from Intel - I had no plans for implementing Haswell ever in my overclocker rig (the M8)... because the areas it excels in aren't a help to me (lower power requirements, faster integrated graphics, additional instructions) and the costs for those improvements work contrary to my goals for the same rig (higher heat production, lower OC potential). On the other hand, I'm positively drooling over the opportunity to drop one into my HTPC - since I can drop the GPU and just have a single block for silent running.

I just think it's hilarious how many times on this site I've had people look down on choices I and others with similar hardware have made - only to pull a 180 a few weeks later. "SB is so much better than IB" -> "I'm getting a 3770K now..." or "Meh 7970s... I've got GTX680s" -> "I sold my 680s and bought 7970s" -> "I sold my 7970s and bought Titans" -> "I'm selling my Titans" (all in the space of 3 months no less). biggrin.gif

It's your build - so who really cares what anyone thinks. Not that it matters, but I think the white+blue looked great, I think the all-white looks great, and even though I'm a little burned out on red builds... if you went all red - I'm sure it would look great as well! As far as the custom wiring and delidding are concerned... WTH are they doing on OCN in the first place if they don't respect that?!?! rolleyes.gif And as far as Haswell is concerned - more power to ya! Just because I'm not going to go that route doesn't mean it's any less valid as a computer - after all, you're happy... and no one else has to use/look at/pay for/etc.. your rig but YOU. thumb.gif

Well, actually it mostly was a (over) reaction to some comments in PM's, which I probably should have sat on for a bit. That has since been straightened out (I hope!).

I should have let it roll off like I usually do but for some reason I was awful testy yesterday, and I apologize if I offended anyone.

You saw that too, huh? lol. I'm trying to figure it all out, Ragsters. Darn color combo's, I just don't know yet, TBH. biggrin.gif
I bought some yellow sleeve - I don't think I'm going to use it as it's too bright. Maybe some Vanilla Sands will work in better?
Now the blue on the RAM.....I went with this brand RAM primarily because they are known for working well with Gigabyte. I couldn't find black that I felt I could afford, and I definitely didn't want red, so what do you do? lol. I wanted to fill 4 slots with something I could live with cost wise that I'm hoping will be hassle free.

I hear ya. I think people ought to go with whatever makes them feel good. I like to joke with people about choices sometimes and hope they know that. See above.
But I think at least some of the people constantly changing hardware do just because they like to, don't you think? wink.gif I guess in reality I've been constantly changing things, which some people don't understand at all, and I've actually had some pretty derogatory comments here and there. I guess some folks just have to say what they think, regardless.

As far as the blue + white....thanks! I like it too. smile.gif ...and of course it matters. But I'm thinking of trying white+shade 19+vanilla sands accent, with Ti grey accents and a few blue ones. In other words I wouldn't be resleeving my sensors and there would still be the odd blue sleeve here and there.
Since I'm going to have to totally remake my SATA power cables I'm thinking of going right off with the white+shade 19 (with white+black bare insulation between drives in the cage).
