[Build Log] Merlin (Water Cooled r-atx SM8 w/dual Pedestals / Z97X-UD5H) - Page 226

OK I have returned Merlin to r-atx and with only two pedestals.
I have more to do, and two Silverstone filters on top I need to paint yet. So, not really finished, but functional anyway.

I actually prefer the two pedestals over three. Three just looked.....tall. Not a good tall. Tall like.....look at that 7'2" girl playing basketball with size 18 shoes. Freakishly tall. Two pedestals still is tall....but more of a elegant tall.

I just read what I wrote above and it makes almost no sense at all. If you understand what I'm saying....kudo to you. smile.gif

Makes purrfect sense, PP. or is it now cPPchris wink.gif

just look at the competing skyscraper designs of the big city horizons. Had to get to there to get to here.

I like the 4 pump look, the superstraight 24pin, the abundance of blue and clear tubing and the res, and the front white Snowflake filters.

And does anyone else think that the SLI cable would look smashing if painted the same color as the gpu copper plates ?

great job ... bringing life back to the build thumb.gif

Oh, no, I understand completely. The good thing was the space; the bad thing was looking at the height.

I remembered that a while back I bought several different cans of copper paint.....none of them look very good as best I remember. Still, I'll keep my eyes open.

Meanwhile today I ordered some more 12mm tubing, a Bitspower dual multi link fitting for the gpu-to-Aquaero water block run, and about 12 Bitspower multi link fittings to replace most of the EK hard tubing fittings.....I just think the Bitspower fittings look better overall. This is eating into my next mobo/cpu upgrade, but oh well.

I have remounted the "custom top" I made a while back during the inverted motherboard build up. It needs some tweaking with a new piece of acrylic as the old piece isn't wide enough in my opinion. The reason is the top piece is mounted higher now.

Here is what it looks like right now with the top in place, before modifying the acrylic trim:

Here is why the top sits higher.....I extended the mounts off the top of the case by using these standoffs screwed together:

Previously the top was just sitting there with double sided tape holding it in place. But last night I was thinking all I had to do was thread these standoffs together and install the original Case Labs mounts on top and it would be "back to factory".

So I will be looking around my shop for some wider replacement acrylic trim. Don't y'all think wider would look better??
I was hoping I had some translucent white that I could maybe light up with led's....but currently I think all I have is black that is long enough. So I may go ahead and make a new trim piece out of black for now......
...and I need to pick up some more paint for the two Silverstone filters on top.....

Oh boy, it's always something. My air compressor isn't working right.....I'm thinking the pressure switch so I went and ordered a replacement. I understand now just how much I use this thing in my shop. But I do have a smaller portable one I can use until I get the big one fixed.

Today I got 2x12mm E22 tubing & some more Bitspower multi link fittings...I like these better than the EK ones I've been using. I thought about going to 1/2" but decided to stick with 12mm. I got 12 of the threaded singles and one dual for connecting a longer tube in the middle.

Anyone looking for a couple of Aquacomputer Power Adjust 2, I got 2 for sale in the marketplace.

Looking good G. It looks more subtle with purpose with two peds.thumb.gif. I agree with socketus on the bottom with the 4 pumps and flow sensors. It does not look desolate at the bottom bottom anymore.

I might come out there again if I can, to see it in person again before I head for finals (If that is ok with you) biggrin.gif.

Thanks! Give me a call M, I'm home hanging around most days except the 29th I will be gone in the AM.

So I redid the trim around the top to make it wider....here in this shot you can see the back and the standoffs I used to mount the top higher and create some space above the case.
Of course there is also the frame that the acrylic trim is mounted to, but not much to see there so I won't bother with it. As before, the acrylic trim is 3 separate pieces glued together
with acrylic cement in a U shape and attached to the framework with double sticky tape. I came up with several ways to attach the acrylic, but in the end good old decal tape seemed the simplest way to go.

Here are the two top Silverstone filters, one is over an intake fan and the rear one is over the psu fan.
Both filters painted with Krylon Satin, just like the front filters.

Today I'm still working on my broken air compressor, got to go to town and pick up some new pipe plugs for the new pressure switch. Hoping this will fix it, I dunno it was making a hellacious noise.....

Hope soon to start redoing all my acrylic tubing. I have the new Bitspower fittings and the new bending jig I made, so I'm hoping I can get some cleaner, more consistent bends......I know the current ones are far from perfect so I hope I can do it better next time! waste, waste....er I mean practice, practice, practice. rolleyes.gif
