Here I did a quick and dirty paint job on an old fan I had laying around.
The frame is flat white and the blade is metallic cobalt blue.
Lighting is yellowish but I didn't have any white light available at the time. This is not intended as a good paint job, just a quick look to see what people think about the colors. Click for larger pics: *Snip* (Click to show)

Here I used the flash to see if it would show the contrast of whites a little better. Still doesn't really come through that the frame is a darker shade than the case. *Snip* (Click to show)

You know those fans get my vote. thumb.gif I think the color combo looks great!

No it doesn't - the frame matches the case color in every shot. The only difference is that last shot, the blue blades come out darker than the prior shots.

So its that you're decoding the signal to analog in the mobo, then reconverting to digital at the Creative box, then decoding that signal again in the HT box - I dunno, seems like a cardinal sin in home audio.

So if you're upmixing, you can encode any source to DTS ? cool ! reason I ask, is this is my DTS library - I am guessing that you will miss out on that rear channel "cowbell" if the source wasn't mixed that way .... quite a few of those mixes - the Allman Fillmore cd - threw a lot of the band into the side and rear channels, and a lot of old timers - stereo guys - didn't care for it at all.

and yah - a vote for the cobalt blue fan smile.gif

It doesn't show up well in the photos.

No. Analog to digital, period. The Onkyo at the HT only decodes. But I only use the DTS-610 when I'm upmixing and want to hear changes on the HT speakers.
Otherwise normally at the pc it's all analog. Everything else at the HT is HDMI, including the HTPC which is run off the video card for passing hi res DTS-MAS and everything else.

If I make an actual DTS disk, or even DTS wav, I use the DTS-MAS encoder. That includes all forms of DTS from 44.1 up to the highest DTS-MAS, although in all practicality I can't really tell much difference between 48kHz and 96kHz. I'm getting old, and I've had tinnitus since I was in the Army. My hearing is not near what it used to be.
I guess what I'm saying is I "am" one of the old timers. I bought my first surround sound setup in 1972, a quad 8 track player/recorder. Later I bought a lot more, then after years I sold it all and finally got back into it about 10-12 years ago.

another vote for cobalt blue. thumb.gif
Yah, some of those quad recordings were done by Brad Miller, the original founder of MFSL - remember the Gold CDs ? and he carried it over into DTS encoding for the HT market in the late '90s. As far as HT is concerned, DTS on an LD was the shizzle. But it still rocks for music. I got hooked up with the HT side in '95 and pretty much stopped buying a/v gear around the turn of the century biggrin.gif I haven't moved past 480i and 24bit/48khz, and I, too, have tinnitus, and I don't care about lossless audio, or the 10.2 sound format - yadda yadda ...

so does the fan color match the paint can's cap the fan is sitting on ? coz there's flakes in the fan's paint !

Hee hee. I had the fan sitting on a Tums bottle. biggrin.gif
But yeah, I know it was metalflake looking from the can cap.

Pump and double top came in today. These little pumps are beasts. The case could be made that D5's all dressed up are prettier -and I have some of those- but bang for the buck it's hard to beat these lil monsters.

The double pump top has two separate inlets, but Swiftech recommends using the top one. Using both supposedly gives no gains over using only the top inlet.

Curious to see flow rates after installing the second pump. Will be a bit yet, waiting on more parts. Forgot to get another heat sink and fan! With heat sink and fan my other pump runs around 30C according to a probe I have placed between the housing and the sink.

Did not know there was a dual size heat sink for the MCP35x dual. Anyway I went ahead and ordered one, already have the fan so should be good to go in a couple days.

Anyone think splicing one of the pump's power wiring into the other would create too much load on the wire? Looking at the wiring I'm guessing it's only about 22 gauge.
But probably I could get all four wires in one small sleeve and just use both connecters.
-or-
Splice the wires into 18 gauge and run to a single molex? or hmmm. I have some of those Mini Tamiya connectors coming, two sets of those would probably take up about the same space as a single Molex 4 pin.
Every little bit of space saved on the side of the case is good as it's already pretty busy there.

Borrowed this pic from Martin's site. (yes he's back up and running)

Here's the Mini Tamiya connectors. they are only about 22mm long, not sure how long when connected to each other but still not very big.

You can splice the wires together, an 18W pump is an amp and a half, so that's only three amps total for both at max.

Even 22 gage can do that, and a bit more, with ease.

The mini Tamiya connectors are pretty good at high currents for their size, which is why they are often used in RC stuff.
