[Build Log] Merlin (Water Cooled r-atx SM8 w/dual Pedestals / Z97X-UD5H) - Page 88

When I bought the second Aquaero I started thinking about whether I wanted to buy another black faceplate.
Instead I'm thinking seriously on painting the front plates the same color blue as the fan blades (cobalt blue). I would do this with the FC8 as well, and then maybe the DVD.

So I have a spare partially crippled FC8 sitting around and I decided to remove the faceplate to see how difficult it is. Turns out it's not hard at all.

Today, weather permitting (it's raining) I will do some light sanding on the FC8 faceplate and spray some paint and see how it looks. Fortunately my shop/woodshop is nice and dry, if a little dusty. wink.gif
If I like it, I will post some pics up and decide whether to paint the faceplates on the Aquaero's. smile.gif

Mandrix..

May I ask why the need for the 2nd Aquaero? I'm planning a monster build myself (looking at 40 fans) and would like to know the limitations...

Thanks

I thought you could add these power adjust things to expand why do you need a second main unit?

One of my pumps crashed and took out the pwm function on the Aquaero somehow. I could have sent it off for repairs, but I have my reasons for putting it off. Thinking now I probably should have bought an LT instead of a Pro and ran it as a slave device to the original. But what's done is done. The Aquaero's only have one fan header with pwm, and that's the best way to run MCP35x pumps.

Running 40 fans would be pushing the limits of one Aquaero by itself. But you can add an LT as a slave device for 4 more headers or you can chain up to 8 Power Adjusts to an Aquaero for a total of 12 outputs. The Aquaero outputs will handle a little over 1.6A per header and the Power Adjust Ultra's will easily handle a D5 with 48w peak output.

Of course you can run as many Aquaero's as you want, but they function independently of each other unless one is an LT which can run as a slave to a XT or Pro.

I needed another water temp sensor behind the cpu for the second Aquaero, so instead of adding another fitting I slipped in two sensors in one fitting.
Above the sensors is the fitting that the sensors wrap around, then a plastic cap holds them in place against the fitting to effectively monitor water temps. I monitor at this spot to get my Air/Water delta t since the water tends to heat up quicker around the blocks. Not necessary but the way I do it. My delta t's with 5 radiators are so ridiculously small anyway...... wink.gif
Surprisingly, at idle temps the Aquaero water block heats the water more than either the cpu or gpu's.

Here's shots of the FC8 front plate I painted. I also painted the front of an Aquaero and it looks basically the same in terms of color.
What do you think?
(I have to open in new tab in FF to get the full sized picture, these were shot pretty big and I didn't trim them.)

Looks SCHWEEEEEET.

I assume you are using them somehow with the Aquaero??? Whats the plan?

I'm just painting the faceplates on the FC8 and the Aquaero's the same color as the fan rotors.

Grabbed a quick pic....the bottom Aquaero is not lined up completely due to the copper tubing. When I tightened the fittings on the tubing I somehow managed to pull the Aquaero back inside the case a little.

I've also decided to scratch the chrome plated tubing and go with plain polished copper. I don't have any pics of the inside because it's a mess until I get my RMA'd pump from Swiftech, plus I have a mixture of chrome and copper right now.
Now who sells Brasso these days.....
