Monitor Recommendation

Thread Starter
Hi everyone

Currently i'm running a dual monitor setup with as my primary monitor a Samsung T240(1920 x 1200 / 5ms) which is aging well and very happy with it, the problem is the second monitor, its just some old 19'' hp that runs at 1024 x 768, i have grown fond of having a second screen and gotten used to all the info i can have on side while gaming and also the extra work space comes in handy, but 1024 x 768 is becoming really too small so a friend of mine lent me a 1440 x 900 19'' but still it is not enough.

I started to look around to see what prices are 21'' monitors with 1920 x 1080 and found prices quite high (100€ to 150€). which made me think, since i'm going to eventually invest some money to make this dual screen setup better and my actual T240 is starting to age, why not just use that as my secondary monitor and get a new primary monitor.

So I really like the 24'' size in my opinion its the best size, not to big not to small smile.gif and have grown quite used to 1920 x 1200 resolution.
So an upgrade would be going to something like LED, 2ms and maybe 120htz if it is really worth it, but if you can convince me otherwise I would like to stick to 1920 x 1200.

what would you guys recommend and what kind of prices will i be looking at, what is the best bang for the buck monitor?
Also the main purpose is gaming, the rest is some vmware work light programming but no image editing or anything in the sort.

Also my current GPU is for sale and will be getting an GTX670

thanks in advance.

Glossy makes TN displays much more bearable. Colours are better, viewing angles seem to be improved but most importantly text is crispy crisp, so perfect for programming.

Samsung 23" 700d or 750d
Asus vg236h / vg236he

The Samsungs (700 & 750) are good choices. The BenQ XL2420T is too, but the colors aren't as great as the Samsungs. Better 3-D than the Samsungs. I went with the Asus VG236H( or VG236HE). It's a nice balance between the two and doesn't have the input lag as the Samsungs.

The Samsungs are the same monitors, but keep in mind the 750 uses DisplayPort instead of DVI-D so your video card will have to support that. The Asus monitors are also the same, so whichever one is cheaper.

Oh, there aren't any 1200 res 120Hz monitors out there.

hi thanks for the reply, what do you mean by input lag?

also, im not interested in 3D just the smoothness of 120htz for fps gaming.

Asus 120hz, benq 120hz, Samsung 120hz are all fine. As long as it's 2 ms.
Acer 120hz is the cheapest and isn't awful although some may argue that they received bad batches and that it has artificial problems with screen etc etc.

Any 120 hz monitor will do you fine, just do your research on Newegg and read reviews and you won't be disappointed by any 120 hz monitors that you'll choose.

Input lag refers to the time difference between when you move the mouse/controller and when that actual movement is seen on screen. I always had a hard time playing consoles on TV's and never knew why. Input lag was the reason. As soon as I switched to a monitor I had no issues. Input lag usually isn't advertised on monitors, but I think it's probably one of the most important spces; especially in FPS's. Generally, you want the input lag to be less than 16.66mS. This is roughly less than 1 frame of delay on a 60hz refresh rate (1/60= 16.66mS).
