actually computers are similar to audio in this way. i can buy speakers that produce sound that goes beyond the human hearing spectrum (far beyond in fact, but for a very premium price). you can argue that such performance is pointless, and it probably is.
on the other hand, a lot of audiophiles are simply focused on things that would make no difference, even assuming humans had a vastly more acute sense of hearing, stuff like audio cables. overclock.net could be called overkill.net, but head-fi.com would be more accurately described as "voodoo.com" most of the time

The reason why the Objective 2 project was born.

Computers seems like the opposite of audio objective/subjective wise. One is more subjective, and the other is more objective (you should be able to tell which is which). However, both do get to the point where the improvement would be negligible because either we won't notice a difference or we can't act fast enough to take advantage of that difference (for example, a machine that takes 1/2 a second to open Chrome and another machine that takes 1 second to open Chrome but you still don't react until, let's say, 2 seconds later in which the faster boot is probably for nothing more than e-peen or something of the sort).
But remember, that word doesn't exist on this forum.

Edit: and don't take the reaction time example too literally because I couldn't think of anything so I just had to throw something in quickly.
