Interestingly, most of the best software (excluding photoshop), is freeware nowadays, at least for my needs.

I would support it only if they did a project Greenlight software section. Otherwise crap would flood steam.

I'm so confused. So it is ok for Steam to have an "app store", but for Microsoft people go berserk and claim it will ruin the OS?confused.gif

Alot of people believed that Microsoft was forcing all Windows software to be listed on their 'App Store'. As a result, loads of complaining and uproar.

No, the fear was that Microsoft would require all games to be "approved" by them and sold by them, giving Microsoft complete control of the platform. Steam is just one of several options on a platform.

Apples and Oranges.

Maybe not from a technicality standpoint, but it is at least the case from a practical standpoint.

If you buy 3D Mark from a retailer, you own the license to it. You may not "own" the software, but you are in 100% direct control of how the license is used.

If you buy 3D Mark from Steam, Steam owns the license. You don't get to choose how you use it (aka re-sale), Valve do.

Many keys used nowadays require online server verification such as Windows, MS Office, and Adobe products. Windows and Office periodically sends your hardware hash information to Microsoft servers to verify the licence. They can invalidate your key and licence through the internet.

It depends if you prefer to purchase through an online distribution store or not. However, it is going to become increasing more difficult to avoid (at least for paid software).

You gona hand over your 3dmark.com account too? Licenses are tied to the 3dmark.com account. If the person wants to use that account (upload scores and what not), you would have to hand over the account to them. But if you still had a 3dmark product on there that you wanted to use, then two people will be messing with the same account. 100% control? Nope.

Also, you should read the EULA, you cannot sell the license:

I can assume their other software reads like wise...
