[Steam] Software on Steam + Greenlight - Page 8

post #71 of 93
So.... Steam is bad because it denies people the means to violate EULA's in the manner that they are traditionally accustomed to.

And... these people violate EULAs with such regularity and impunity that they think the ability to do so is a right.

Ok then.

Ok then.

EULA != law.

Law > EULA.

If law says I own the license, EULA can go **** itself.

I said this on the Toms Hardware news article comments section, but I'd like to know your opinion on this, so here is me quoting myself:
Quote:
The idea is good, but when it comes to 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark 11, I don't see them selling well on Steam. Why ? Because Steam always has to be running in the background when it comes to running games or applications bought through Steam, and as any benchmarker knows, you want to compare your best benchmarks against other people's best benchmarks. That includes not running / closing any non essential applications that would otherwise potentially lower the score.

Unless Steam allows the benchmarks to run without having to run Steam, I don't see them sell well at all compared to their off-line versions.

Considering Valve can disable any account without prior notice or for undisclosed reasons I would say there are no conveniences, which is why I have never used Valve and abhor services such as this.

I like the idea. Your software can always stay up to date. Also is not like people have more then 10 application in there PC. On top of that nobody is forcing it on anyone. If its good people will use this service. To add that i feel like Valve is more Steam then game. Nothing original in a long time. I feel like people hang on to steam for HL3.

I could care less about the company, it's the distribution model that I support. Digital distribution has revolutionized the accessibility of content - making it cheaper, more widely available, and yes, more convenient to obtain - while returning a significantly larger percentage of the profits to the original artist, which in turn, encourages the production of more content of even better quality.

Your concerns about not being able to resell your unwanted crap at a garage sale or give used stuff to a relative or arbitrarily losing access to your content for running afoul of pretty-easy-to-adhere-to Terms of Service are hilariously pissant in comparison to the benefits the model genuinely delivers.
