Opinions, should I upgrade?

Thread Starter
Hey guys well right off the bat let me say that I have a Phenom 960T @ 4.0Ghz, and a 6850 1gb right now and I'm thinking about upgrading either just my video card or both, my monitor is 1440x900, and I also have a 32" 720p TV running connected at all times just used to display random stuff... never used for gaming. I like to run everything at Max and get at least 60fps... Games I play Battlefield 3, Skryim, Crysis, Aion, Just Cause 2... stuff like that. With that information what do you think about me upgrading? I think it may be time, because I am not getting 60fps in some games at max settings, especially newer games... ( this bugs me very much ) If you think I should upgrade what do you think a good card and cpu, or just card to upgrade to would be, and be realistic, I obviously dont need a gtx 690 tongue.gif

Thanks guys

I would get a 1080p or 1200p and really feel what pc gaming is like. So with your new monitor you going to need a new gpu I would get a 660 ti or a 7870 if you want a constant 60fps on max. If you do get a 1200p monitor your going to need a 7950 or 670.

less than 60 FPS isn't always caused by lack of hardware.

Sometimes it depends on how well the game and engine was developed. Look at Dragon Age 2 You will always always get video lag in that on PC because it was very poorly optimized for PC play. Dark Souls is itself capped at 30 FPS because it is a console port, a lot of games are like this sadly.

Honestly, unless you are a rich kid out to throw money away on a big epeen, run the FFXIV or Arkham City benchmark and make your decision based on that. I personally think you have quit a lot more time left with that tech.

Well Battlefield 3 is my main game, and I cannot run steady at 60fps on ultra settings, and I would really much like to blushsmiley.gif

If you are noticing fps drops in bf3 then go for it. I have an i7 920 BOOMfield 580 3gb and am fine in everything i play.

I'm not an authority in graphics cards but that kind of info is everywhere. Good luck. PA REPRESENT

7870 is solid. BF3 runs smooth as butter, no slow down, great framerate. I have the OC edition and pushed it a bit farther myself, great card!
