Opinions, should I upgrade? - Page 2

Well, there is no reason why you should be worrying about getting 60 fps. The difference between 60 fps and 30 fps is undetectable by the human eye, the only thing I could see you needing an upgrade on is your processor and maybe your monitor, but again it might not make that big of a difference, the t.v. in my room is a 1440 x 900 resolution t.v. and my dad says that when it has my gaming pc running on it, it looks better than a 1980 x 1080 resolution t.v.

Funny story, my friend gets stable 40-55 fps in league of legends. He saw me playing on my rig and blurted out "wth what fps does lol run at for you?" to which i replied "120" and he just looked amazed. He was like 5 feet behind me so his eyes detected a difference.

bf3 loves cores. i really don't see any reason to upgrade a cpu because of one or two games but i suggest (if it bothers you that much) to wait for piledriver or even haswell. for now, a 7870 will do you good along with a good oc of that zosma.

HD 7950 cards are available starting at 300 (and as low as 270 after rebate). definitely the best option. It would be a huge upgrade from the HD 6850. Get a HD 7950 and push it to 1.1 Ghz. HD 7950 (1.1 Ghz) is more than 2x performance of HD 6850. the sapphire HD 7950 boost is available for USD 310 (290 after rebate) . good cooler. comes with sleeping dogs game. thumb.gif

I also agree that first you should upgrade the monitor. 1080p are so cheap nowadays.

Could it be that due to the low resolution, the CPU is actually the bottleneck?

Obviously the 6850 is not gonna reach all ultra especially with 1gb vram in BF3, which is known to consume a lot of vram, but maybe the CPU might be the issue here.

I hope someone with more expertise can throw some light into the issue.

Depending on the situation, your eyes can't tell the difference past 40-60 fps. Him being amazed at 120 would only be due to how much higher your FPS is than his:thumb:

Past solid FPS the only thing that makes a difference is your monitor refresh rate and resolution.
