7970 or 6970 + 6950 crossfire?

Hey guys, I am doing a big upgrade soon (less than one month) and was wondering what to get; a single 7970 or a 6950 for crossfire. My current GPU is a powercolor 6970 @ 975/1525 and it runs most games fine but I want more tongue.gif. This is what my computer specs will be when I upgrade my computer:

Case: Antec 1200v3
PSU: Seasonic 750watt Gold
CPU: Intel i5 3570k (Currently I have an AMD 1100t @ 3.8MHz)
Ram: 6GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte z77 Motherboard(Currently got a Asus Crosshair IV)
CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO (I have a Zalman 9900max but I lost a screwdriver...)
HDD: 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB

I know that crossfire is faster but I've heard that it causes many problems. Also dunno if the PSU is big enough. I might also be able to buy a used 680 GTX but I'm not sure if buying used cards is safe... Don't want to get a defective card with nothing to do with it...

Edit: Getting a Z77 motherboard instead. Thanks for the input by the way biggrin.gif

7970 by far.

I had CF 6970s, and they were loud, hot and ate up a lot of power. Plus when you over clock the 7970 it is pretty much on par with CF 6970 except that it has little to no microstutter..which is freaking awesome.

I sold mine for a reference 7970, made a $40 profit and am super happy i made the switch back to single gpu.

Go for the single 7970, sell your 6970 whilst you can.

sell your HD 6970. that should get you 150 - 160 bucks. spend another 150 bucks and get a HD 7950 . clock for clock HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970. Overclock HD 7950 to 1.15 Ghz and you will beat your HD 6970 (975 Mhz) by atleast 50 - 60%.

BF3 1920 X 1200 4x AA
HD 6970 - 40.3
HD 7970 Ghz (1050 Mhz) - 72.3
HD 7950 (1135 Mhz) - 74.8

The best options are the Gigabyte HD 7950 Windforce (900 Mhz) and Sapphire HD 7950 Boost (850 / 925 Mhz boost) . both these cards have good coolers and can easily handle 1150 - 1200 Mhz overclocks well. both the cards come with sleeping dogs game. excellent game. very nice value add.

Ok, so I am thinking to buy a Gigabyte Windforce 7950 for $290 used due to what I've been hearing. I will buy from amazon and I won't sell my 6970 probably because I'm not too familiar with selling stuff on the Internet... Anyways, so would I be able to keep it under 65C at 1.15GHz? Also would it be worth it to spend an extra $70 for a 7970 or is this kinda like the 6970/6950 thing? I'll be overclocking the cards to the max btw and I don't care about, noise or power consumption. I just want to have nice fps that never goes below 60 in ALL games and I don't want to upgrade until 3 years at the least. I MIGHT buy another one of the card and crossfire.

i would get 7950 and OC it, ive heard its pretty close to a 7970 OCed. and you should have no problems with heat with any of the non reference coolers
but if the extra money doesnt bother you, i would go with the 7970 lightning from msi which does overvolting well, for max OC. speaking of which , you may or may not hit 1.15ghz. OCing is a gamble and doesnt always turn out in your favor

you could always try to sell your 6970 here on OCN, or on something like craigslist, or to friends that need upgrades
