Next move from 5870cf? - Page 2

Q1 2013 is when the 8970 is supposed to hit. I would wait till then, gives you a few months to save up.

^This. There is really no good reason to upgrade from 5870 CF just yet. They have plenty of power (you can max both crysis 2 and BF3 right?) and to get any meaning full performance increases you are going to have to get 7950 CF/670 SLI as a minimum.

So get that better monitor and wait for the next gen cards.

Even 7850 CfX would be a big upgrade with higher frames & double the vRam.... Even one 7970 is an upgrade from 5870 CFX.

Not really, a 7850 is about on par with a 5870 and slightly faster than a 5850, http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/36269-amd-radeon-hd-7850-vs-6850-vs-5850-clocks/

The difference is pretty significant in the heavier DX11 titles, not to mention CfX scaling has improved drastically since Cypress, and the 2gb vRam...

My point originally is that 7950 CfX simply blows the doors off 5870 CfX when it's all said and done, and 1 7970 > 2 5870 in the real world.

CF scaling even in the best cases is 1.8 - 1.9x . HD 7950 and HD 7970 at 1.1+ Ghz will easily be faster than HD 5870 CF . also being single GPU the performance will be much more consistent without any CF scaling issues in few games or micro stuttering problems.

Update: I have now purchased a 120hz 1080 monitor and will be looking into upgrading my GPU now. Friend of mine mentioned that 7950 is much better for the price than a 7970. How true is this? I plan to CF or SLI what ever I choose. Thanks!
