Can you please elaborate? I dont see how AMD's current K8 architecture could have "a lot more power behind it" than a Core 2 chip. Thats like saying a Pentium D 965 EE has more power behind it than an FX-60 because it is 65nm and the FX-60 is 90nm.

couldnt intel just make a mobo that supports 2 conroes or kentsfields and blow this out of the water?

EDIT:you couldnt even get a sound card in there with the 4 GPUs

It will end when CPUs are measured in Yhz

Right now I'm just waiting for a 1THz CPU. It will probably come in 15 years or so. Just think of the overclocks!...

EDIT:
After all, the Intel 4004 (740KHz, 4-bit architecture) was invented in 1971, and the speed has gotten to be 5135-fold in 35 years. So, in another 35 years, if the same rate of speed multiplication happens, we will have a 19.5 THz CPU.

Well, first off it has more than enough bandwidth. Second up to 4 gpu's can be utilized in the system, so thats a crazy amount of graphics processing power, now imagine when that gets good SLI support. Workstations that did highly intense graphics rendering would be likely loving 4x4 systems.

For the longest time I was trying to figure out what [4x4] means and now I realized it means [4 Cores x 4 GPUs]. That's one heck of a computer, and I thought the system Nvidia showed off at the G80 launch was beastly enough.

Gotta start saving up now

I see no SLI connectors. Is it software SLI?

I am correct in thinking that you will need an additional/different (more expensive) licence to run Windows on this board? To my knowledge, Windows allows as many cores under one IHS as you like under the standard commercial desktop licence, but as soon as you have two physical CPUs you need a different/more expensive licence to run Windows? This is correct isn't it? Perhaps somebody can verify this for me?

I still think 4 cores under one IHS is going to be the best option, but I have to admit that this board does look nice and the prospect of two CPU water-blocks on it sounds very aesthetically pleasing .

Good thread sladesurfer. REP for you.

Highly-Annoyed

I mean, wasn't that the point of multiple cores in the first place? Can't scale the GHz any higher, so let's add more cores! If they wanted to just add more sockets on the board and plug multiple processors in... hell... we could've did that a long time ago!
