BIOS REQUEST: Gigabyte 7970 GHz 1100MHz GV-R797TO-3GD - Page 3

Oh, it looks like we might have completely different VRMs altogether--my VRMs never clock down when idle, according to GPU-Z.

Greetings,

I'm reading this thread for a while and waiting some more feedback.
How are your cards behaving with this bios?
Are the temperatures much higher?
How about the fan speed in idle?
Lot of questions, I know, but every experience is valuable to me because I'm also considering to flash this bios.

Than you in advance.

The Ghz BIOS didn't work on my GV-R797OC-3GD revision 1.0. Wouldn't even display anything.

Also of note for revision 1.0 is that the beta BIOS for the card itself back in early November, designated F41_A, glitches hard within seconds of logging into Windows (likely a software control issue). Haven't tried it with the latest driver, F72 yet.

How do you know what revision card you have?

I might have Rev 1.0 too. Couldn't get the above Ghz to boot frown.gif

also tried the latest Ghz BIOS on the Gigabyte website, that didn't work also..

Does the rev 1.0 at least have unlocked voltage?

Pull out your card and look above the PCI Express slot pins. It should be on a sticker.

I read about how Gigabyte names their BIOSes. Every multiple of 10 is meant for a new revision. So rev. 1.0, which comes with BIOS F1, works with F2 only, other revisions I assume come with F40 (which works with F41_A) and F71 (which only works with F72).

And I unlocked the voltage on my rev. 1.0, with that one special patch for MSI Afterburner found somewhere else on these forums. (I'd link you, but I'm on my phone and don't have the bookmark)

AFAIK all Rev 1.0 have their voltage unlock all you have to do is to use the correct OC software and supported files (as the previous comment advised).

You don't need the GHz bios for max OC.

The only thing I don't know if I update the card to the last FW do the voltage stays unlocked or not, and if I can roll back to the previous FW (in case my voltage gets locked) ?

You can roll back any BIOS by flashing over it. It's programming inside a chip, it won't lock your card down physically.

Tried this already with my rev. 1.0. The driver won't respond to be able to use any Catalyst settings whatsoever, so I end up with a system that displays as if it had no display driver installed at all.
