this. I had such a good time tweaking my core 2 quad to break the 4.4ghz barrier. and boy did it. broke into the 4.6 territory, but couldnt stay long enough to validate without BSOD.

extreme overclocking is a whole other ball game. its really difficult to get high overclocks like the one Asus did

I never said they are without merit. I said that was pretty interesting, but all in all, it's just a very limited application that has next to no practical purpose. All I am doing is offering up my opinion as both a computer overclocker -AND- as a drag racer when someone tried to compare this "limited overclocking" to drag racing. Also, I am not the only one on this thread who thinks this is neat, but pretty much pointless. If you HAVE to compare it to something car related, this would be akin to engine building and engine dyno testing to see how much HP you can get out of the engine, but NOT putting that engine in a car and actually driving it (either out of the parking lot, and certainly not on a track or the street).

Maybe I deserve a special singling out because of my vocal opinions, but I personally don't think so, especially since there are about a half a dozen others who are basically voicing the same opinions on it.

But if you want, I'll move on. I've made my point and spoken my peace.

And those SuperPI scores are simply stunning. Not to mention DDR3-2683 at CL6 !?!?!?!?!

Respect.

You totally have a point

Having said that, it is quite alot like drag racing, except in this case all 8 pistons blow thru the block and the blower explodes at the end of a run. This is still amazing, they just ran a sub 4 second quarter mile. biggrin.gif

Damn thats awesome ! rolleyes.gif
So am I to understand that only people who agree with the premise or topic of a thread are allowed to respond??? rolleyes.gif I don't find extreme OCing to be a legitimate exercise in computing. Just my opinion and certainly doesn't mean I shouldn't be here on OCN unless we are going to change the name of the forum to EOCN. Obviously not everybody likes folding, or water cooling, or high-res monitors, or whatever but that doesn't mean they aren't allowed to express their opinions. This is a discussion forum people; not everybody likes the same things...
